Default New Parts

Hi all,

First time poster. I recently purchased the Associated RC10B4.2RS buggy as a starter to get into the hobby and I have already started to replace parts based on reviews that said the front A-arms are not very strong and likely to take the brunt of a novice driver.

I've replaced the front shock tower and both A-arms with carbon to give more strength but now I seem to have a problem in the the suspension doesn't retract after an impact. As I said before I'm a complete novice in this level of RC and my first thoughts were that the pin that holds the A-arm to the chassis requires lubrication, I haven't done that on the rebuild.

Would I be right or should I look elsewhere?

Many thanks
Mat

Possibly. How is the fit? If it is tight you may need to just smooth / sand/ file it slightly to give free movement but no "play".
Is the pin nice and smooth or tarnished? Is it straight?
Do you have a local club? There will usually be someone there that can take one look and tell you the problem as well as how to fix it

Hi Mat,

The pin is likely bent, you would normally be able to tell on rebuilding though. The pin should be able to pass right through the holes in the arm and the bulkhead freely, if not then you have a bent pin. No lubrication necessary on the pins. Is the pin retainer at the front made of aluminium on your model? If not, this is the most worthwhile upgrade you would need. The parts you have replaced with carbon may be stronger, but with it they are more brittle and likely to snap rather than bend a bit like plastic ones. Not sure what would be the best for crashes, probably depends how hard the crashes are. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, I have sorted it now, I had the top bolts on the shock tower too tight.

I'm struggling with finding reverse on the transmitter too. Obviously the trigger forward motion should activate the reverse gear but it doesn't. I've probably twiddled the dials on the transmitter to much and cannot get it back. I'm using the standard transmitter that came with the buggy.

2 possible solutions - neither to do with transmitter

1) has ESC been calibrated with tranny since you installed and set up?

2) is ESC set up for forward / brake / reverse or just forward / brake?

If in doubt though, check tranny and make sure you haven't set a end point to zero or something like that ( what kind of radio is it?)

It's the standard xp3g transmitter that came with the buggy. I'll have a look for settings. No doubt there's a video on YouTube that will help!

Cheers all

the plastic b4 arms are less brittle than the carbon ones. they are a little more flexible and handle impacts well, if you change anything in the front, change the bulkhead for either an alloy or brass one. if you have a very hard crash then either the wishbone or bulkhead is going to fail and its a lot quicker and easier to change a wishbone!!
