Please help paypal dispute on a forum sale, need advice.

Hello there.

Need some advice on how paypal are dealing with a problem.

I have sold a smart tray to AndyR and he paid via paypal. I received the email to say the funds have gone through.

Today have just received an email from paypal which states the following.... Copy n pasted from email....


Recently, PayPal received a notification from a user regarding unauthorised access to his PayPal account. As a result, one of the payments credited to your PayPal account has been placed in a temporary hold while we investigate the claim. PayPal constantly monitors transactions for unauthorised use of accounts in order to maintain the safety of our users. The details of this transaction are as follows: Transaction Date: 23 Nov. 2008 Transaction Amount: 29.00 GBP Buyer's Email: [email protected] If you have already dispatched goods related to this transaction, you may be covered under PayPal's Seller Protection Policy. Please provide PayPal with the following information: 1) Tracking Number of Delivery 2) Delivery Company Used 3) Postage Compensation Information (if used) If you have provided a refund to the buyer, please provide PayPal with the following information: 1) Date of Refund 2) Amount of Refund For you to be protected by our Seller Protection Policy, you must reply to this email. We need to receive all correspondence regarding this case within seven days. If you have any questions, please reply to this email. Good selling practices, like trackable postage, prompt delivery, and communication between buyer and seller help prevent disputes. Yours sincerely, PayPal .

From the summary, it appears that the seller, may have paid me twice, although the transaction is only showing as pending.

He then sent me a request to pay the money back via email.. And i presume that he then ALSO filled out a claim of unauthorized access to his account, and it has put everything on hold...

Im a bit miffed about all this and dont know whether the easiest thing to do is,

Is it, ask him to withdraw the claim, dont know whether this is possible, and i simply send the funds back??

Do i leave things for paypal to investigate, they should hopefully see that 2 transactions of £29 have gone through ( although they do carry different transaction details...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

don't just sit on it, give Paypal some real hastle, as otherwise, they won't do bugger all!!

Find out if you can contact the buyer, if he's paid twice, has he had paypal stop both payments or just one?

Lol.. Not sure on what to do though.....

Can the buyer AndyR simply remove the claim... Iv pm'd him to give me a call, but im not sure he has the message yet?

If the claim could be removed, i could just see it that i could pay back, the money, but at the moment, the money is now on hold in the account and paypal is asking me for proof that i have posted the items out...

Buyer is a member on here...

I wouldnt mind he only lives 20 odd miles or so away, and i offered to meet him halfway lol, would have been far easier for cash lol...

Sorry mate, just to be clear, he's paid twice yeah? Has he had both payments stopped or just one? If just one, then tell paypal its fine to take the second payment back. If he's stopped both, keep trying to get hold of him to ask him to tell paypal to let one of them through?

25 nov Payment.................. From Andy....... Held
25 nov Payment ..................From Andy .. Completed

from the above, i read it as,

Bottom 2 payments, 1 has been completed, the other was then held..??

I then see the invoice that he sent me, 1 hour ago..

Followed on by the claim that his paypal has been frauduently used..

Anyone had anything similar..

hopefully the above will make better sense, yes 1 payment has been received.

I see a requested invoice for the money back, which i can send back no probs. But i then see the claim for unauthorized funds... Asking me to action, but it doenst tell me what to do...

Can a buyer simply remove the claim?? If they can. Its straightforward, i'll just pay the invoice request he sent me..

Well yeah... He has pm'd me saying that paypal sent the money twice though.. Not really had much contact apart from that..

Paypal can be a bit confusing, check your account balance, has he paid once or twice?

I had it on an Xbox I sold to someone in Liverpool (I know....), but I had seller protection as I had the signature from the delivery receipt! It IS slow, but by far the easiest thing would be to get the buyer to sort it with paypal so keep trying!

I think Paypal have fixed comments Northy, the can go well overboard when they think there's a problem! Makes you feel like they're accusing you personally of masterminding it all!!

I hate Paypal and everything that they use to try and fob you off.

Ps - there is a credit balance of just under the £29 as they take there fees off for sending the money grrrr lol.. But it was the claim that worries me, and the fact that its saying hold and pending.

sorted now i hope bought loads of stuff off here bit confused why they sent two payment i asked them why they sent and got no responce just stopped one payment thats all hope its sorted now ?
