New to the RB5

Hi all

Have just got a Rb5 it looks the biz. Any way what other bits to buy for tunning. IE shock springs/ pistions/ tyres for all surfaces / Wheels/Etc/


Your advice would be great.

where are you planning to race it?
The kit wheels are fine, and i'm not sure there are any others available!

Springs wise, a lot of people run Losi springs, but the Kyosho ones are ok. The colours will depend on what surface you race on.

Make sure you add weight to the front end, around 30g. Some people run the atomic carbon shock towers as these add a few extra mounting positions and are strong.
Ceramic diff balls also from atomic are a good addition.
B4 titanium turnbuckles are a direct fit and save some weight as the RB5 is a bit on the lardy side.
that's most of it really, the car doesn;t need much to improve it.

PB1 try changing your camber links from kit, front inner middle hole with no washes, outer to kit. Rear inner, shortest hole with 4/5mm washes, outer kit hole 2/3mm washes. Kyosho make some longer ball studs to do this.

Jim's right on the weight/hop ups etc. I'd say the springs you'll need are front, lime green 75, silver 70. Rear blue/purple 72, silver 70, blue 68. Run 2c pistons front & 2b rear.

Thanks for the update i will be running the car on astro/ grass. The motor i have installed is a lrp 5.5 from my B44. I take it that most people are running shumacher yellows front and rear ???. I will pop in to dms next week. Thanks again.

Yep yellow mini spikes are the norm in the dry but I would invest in a 6.5 motor. A 5.5 in any 2wd will be to hot!!

Do some people run B4 wheels all round or is it just out back?

Just on the rear I believe, although to do this you will need proline rear axles. There is no way of fitting fronts on.

No particular reason other than most who switch to the RB5 have run a B4 or losi at some point and have shed loads of wheels lying around so it saves them buying loads of new wheels. It doesnt affect performance.

I noticed the front wheels seem wider than narrow if that makes sense.
Do I need slim fronts of 4wd fronts? I suppose it varies surface to surface and style to style but what is the common choice?

I would always use slim 2wd front tyres on a 2wd car. The wheels may well be wider, I dont know, but I know Sharpy and everyone else I know who runs the RB5 use slim 2wd tyres on the front wheels.

I think the proline axels make the car slightly wider but as Bizzle said the only reason to fit them is if you have some B4 wheels left over from the switch.

The new rear arms make the car wider or if running the standard rear end this can be achieved by simply putting a couple of washers in between the hex and wheel, thats how I run mine.

Also 2wd tyres all the way.

Anyone have trouble the Hex Hubs with them sliding and the pins coming out?

I found that after you have had the wheels on and off a few times they stop falling to bits,

Alternatively use the blue alloy hexes that clamp to the axle.

i find the original kyosho law30 part to be expensive.

any touring car hex clamp will do. in fact, i'm using a pair of serpent ones, which still end up costing less than an original kyosho part!
the serpent clamp is possibly 1mm wider, no big deal there.

Hi Guys,

Just to say grab yourself (not Sharpy as I know he has one) a Kyosho carbon effect catalogue from your nearest Model Shop.

There are quite a few options in the book for the RB5, that most shops I visit did not realise.

Regarding hexes, the width is the only factor, so use it to your advantage to increase turn in or stability to suit your driving.

I think the wider front wheels just help coner stability over the older narrow ones as they lower/stretch the profile.

Pete, the tyre can look a little stretched, but's it's cool. Just trim the outer edge if you want to get the rest of the tyre working and it will help with reducing the front end initial bite.

More and more race shops have RB5 & lazer spares, so thanks for your support and keep asking the shops questions, and we will do our best to service them for you.
