Default Stoke Nitro Gallery - 26 October 2008

oOple popped along to the Stoke Nitro Racing Club summer series final. The weather looked like it would spoil the day but despite the track never really drying out at all - it still provided some great racing.

Dave Grunill dominated qualifying in 1/8th buggy with the oOple review XRay 808 buggy - final results aren't available yet, but we got some nice photos from the moist days action. http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/stoke261008/

How was the track??

Mid-West are probably having a 1/10th electric regional there next season, so any opinions would be greatly appreciated

It was quite narrow in places - but maybe for 10th it's not so bad. It just looked quite narrow. The straight at the back doesn't look so wide as it's far away - it's also quite bumpy in places including the back straight. Not sure if you can change the layout a little - maybe keep the buggies from going so far away - but the laptimes are fairly long as we got maximum 7 laps in 5 minutes.

With the right tyres yeah it wasn't bad - of course it was a little loose but I prefer that to a super high grip astro track. I borrowed some tyres for my truggy so I'm not sure how the others would have worked - but I'd guess it's a ballistics track for 10th when it's wet, a bit like Lee Martins track.

Default Tyres

Jimmy I keep telling you ! there is no other tyre that really works on wet astro other than the xtm grinders !!! Other big spike ones like panthers are ok but the things are big and handling is worse.!

And I can say when jimmy lost his wrag ! " yes he got mad " he drove like a mad man and it looked very good. I was well impressed and so were others !! The Tamiya/kyosho ! He He looked good !

Great photos Mate but none of me and you !!!! you will have to train vicky up !

some ace pictures there jimmy

yea we were egging jimmy on in his final..he went ape on the sticks haha

i didnt think the grip was that bad to be honest, slippy yes but still had it on 2 wheels a couple of times.

its bumpy in some places but certainly driveable i think with 10th scale.

the 808 was awesome all day..i never touched it or changed anything from saturday nights rebuild.

when we built the track at the beginning of the year we built it 80% 4mts wide but when we extended it this Aug-Oct it is now 95% 4mts and over.
the back straight believe it or not measures 4.3mts wide all the way down its because its on a slight slope that it looks smaller. the 5% that isn't 4mts plus is no smaller than 3.5 wide.
as for the back straight being bumpy i thought it was off road
the lap times are 44 plus seconds and that was John Howells so the lap times are bang on i think
the layout can be changed it can be shortened to 33 seconds within minutes and we are starting work soon on the track so we can also change the layout within a hour.

Loved the track design ! features were great ! I presume in the dry the triple infront of the rostrum can be jumped ? The only problem I had was the rostrum was to near the track. If you are on the end on the left its a bit of a lean to see the right of the track were race control was ! and if anyone leant over when they came into the pits the corner was blocked totally ! Move the rostrum 4ft back gives more viewing and more room in the pits !and perhaps another 4 ft up "this is why it looks narrow!!" And make the pits oneway in the other end out !!!

all in all intresting to drive around !!
