Default exploding capacitators

Hi
I have now had two capacitators explode after just a few minutes running. I have also had a couple of motors burn out completely.

i run an tamiya avante 2001 wth a modelsport xt-12 esc with a 17x2 motor and a core rc 4000mah 20c battery. is this battery too hot for the set up. The two motor burn outs have been 14t motors all brushed.

i have tried pinions from 16 to 20t and the same thing happens.

getting very frustrated, please help!

What sort of Capacitors are you using?

I've been running all sorts of brushed stuff for years and never had a capacitor explode.

Currently, my brushed speedo is a Mtronics Sprint 12 turn limit so older version of yours and I'm using a 16v 2200uf cap from Maplins with no issues racing the pants off it with a 20t Saturn motor and lipo cells. Final drive ratio about 7.2 to 7.4

I run a 12turn checkpoint in a 4wd with ratio 10.8

Kit std Avante is ratio 8.33 with 20t pinion, so for a 17 turn motor i'd say 20t should be ok.

Any chance of a picture of your complete wiring?

Which capacitors and where are they fitted? Capacitors and Schottky diodes have to be wired in the right way round, otherwise they go 'pop'.

The battery will not be a factor. The speedo will only deliver the current the motor can draw, however much capacity the battery has. Focus on the speedo and motor to tell us how and where these parts are fitted. HTH

Check it's not on the wrong way round. Caps can explode if wired back to front! Most have a white line down them - this indicates the negative terminal.

Thanks all. the first cap was factory fitted and I'm not sure what it was. the second I got as a replacement from maplins, I took the old one in and they gave me an equivalent, its possible I put that one was on wrong.
the second was 25v, 47uf. I know nothing about electrics to know if this is right or not

I used to mess about blowing caps up at college to scare the tutor
Wire it up the wrong way round wait for a bit of smoke then bang

hi

the cap on the motor exploded aagain, so I put a new one on exact replacement of the factory one and this exploded in seconds. thought I may have put in on backward as was said so put another on the other way around and it popped again!

I have been having problems with my modelsport xt-12 esc I think. I have to keep resetting it every time I turn it on and sometimes it just stops or the car suddenly starts. doesn't seem to be that hot so don't think it is shutting down due to that also it sometimes happens within seconds of starting. also even with a new bat it won't go. maybe that motor gets too hot but again, within seconds?

I have a core Rc transmitter and receiver, I was getting interference with sudden turns off to the left so put a cap on the receiver and it worked well for a while. I've not changed anything and this has started.

help please, getting very frustrated, not been able to run more than a few full batteries without probs since November.

Matt

If the cap is exploding on the motor, does the speed control have reverse on it? If you run reverse it swops the voltage rails around on the motor when in reverse

when you engage reverse it will blow the cap if its across the motor
