Hello Guys,
Im from Blackburn and looking to try my hand at 10th racing again, I used to race when i was around 10 to 15 years old but now im 35 its been a while, although i do race 8th. What would be a good starting setup, bear in mind electrics are a dark art to me! And also any good clubs here in Lancs for me to get to? Thanks Simon |

I guess it depends at what level & where you want to race at & your budget...
If your on a tight budget (say £250) a Durango DEX210 RTR, set of tyres, mid motor parts & a LiPo & charger can be had all brand new from UK shops... Or a good used set up of a (not the latest) buggy can be had for around that. B4.2, Losi 22, DEX210, Centro C4.1, Cougar SV1/2, etc... If you want to race competitively & buy new then I guess about £500 will get you a latest generation 2wd chassis (B5m, Losi 22 2.0, DEX210v2, Cougar KF, etc) & some decent electrics (Hobbywing, Speed Passion ESC/Motor, Savox servo, SMC LiPo) & a few sets of wheels & tyres... If you race on high grip surfaces such as Astro or carpet then a mid motor car will be the way to go. As others will no doubt tell you - go along to a club & see what others are running. ![]() And always look at the signature at the bottom of someones post when they tell you a specific brand of car ![]() |

I was in the same position as you just before Christmas. I stopped racing back in 1992/93. I have chosen to go with a Schumacher Kf / Speed Passion / Savox set up with Sanwa radio gear. The thing i have noticed most is how it always use to feel more like turn up and drive where as now the cars are so adjustable mechanically and electronically the set up is absolutely key! So as per the previous comment i would go with a set up you know people at your local club will be able to help with, as it makes all the difference having some help. oh and if you can afford it and you know its not just a passing fancy get the best kit you can afford as your just going to end up replacing it.

Thanks guys.
I have things like radio / receivers and various savox servos (1267, 68, 1256, 57, 58) so things like that arent an issue. I was going to say im not planning on being competitive as just want to race when im not able to race 1/8th rallycross with my Sworkz, BUT! We all know how these things are and as soon as you start racing you want to win dont you haha. Which tends to be more popular, 2wd or 4wd for 10th offroad?

2WD should be cheaper and easier, and it tends to be more popular. Come over to Bury Metro track on a Sunday, have a chat and see what goes on. Plenty of help and advice available (and a good track!)

Bury's a good shout and has definitely turned a corner at the opening of this season after a quite a difficult period, also look out for Pendle and district model car club (Nelson) their predominantly 1/8th nitro but do host occasional 1/10th electric meetings.

Hi, firstly let me say welcome back! I used to race in Albion Mill in Blackburn during the 80's 1/10th scale buggies and have been back racing for three years with my eldest lad, we generally go to Ribble Valley Raceway which is based indoors on a Friday night as it suits my family circumstances, other than that we race at Bury outdoors. I live in Darwen so if you want to pop over one night for a brew and a chat let me know.
Regards, Lee |

Yet another come on over to Bury Metro, you'll find me in the race control cabin swearing at the computer. I should be able to direct you to the right person to help you with most things.
We normally get about twice as many 2wds as 4wds - which is actually better than Southport where its something like 4-5 to 1. All the major brands are represented at the track to some extent with no clear favorite.
