Wonder if someone could help recently had a look at my shocks and decided that the inserts had been in too long, so wanted to change them. Taken the old ones out ok but when I come to put the new ones in they will not click into place and when I take the tool out, the square part and a red washer are still on the end- Wonder if there is a trick to sorting this out or is it just a case of brute strength?
By inserts I mean 2 x red seals, 2 x small white plastic washers, 1 x big white washer and the square part that seals everything below. |

are you sure you have them in the right order, the red o ring shouldn't be against the square plastic washer,

Thin, o ring, fat, o ring, thin, square thing. Isn't that the order?

Jamie are you putting all the parts on the tool and trying to assemble as 1? If so put things in and seat them down 1 peice at a time, this usually helps.
Looking forward to this job on my truck shocks tomorrow ![]()

Yeh they are definately the right way like Phil showed - sorry didnt put them in the right order in my first comments - but am doing them the way phil showed and they just wont click in no matter how much pressure I put on them. Was wondering if there is some dirt that is stopping them or if I need to give them a good whack?
Thanks for the help Dan will try and put them in one at a time to seat them |

I always put in the first thin washer in the body itself, you might need to use a driver to get it to seat correctly, then put in the rest. I found the first washer can catch in the body and make it difficult to click in.

Try giving the empty shock body a wash out with motor/brake clean. Obviously make sure there's no seals in there first.

as phill said clean it out with motor spray and make sure theres nothing left in, place the tool full of your new stuff down on the table orings etc pointing up,and put the shock on top of that and push down on the shock, mind the plastic bit has it comes through doesn't stab your hand, give it a tap it should make a good firm click,

Sometimes the thick washer is a bit to big give it a bit of a sand down. This will make everything sit better. You dont need to take much off and the shocks will be smoother as well as the o rings dont compress to much.

Ooooo, just a thought.. You are using new seals aren't you?? If not, it could be that the seals have swollen and making the whole assembly a tight fit.
