Default Kyosho Raider (or Outlaw Raider) gearbox problems

Hi all,

My Outlaw (that's on a Raider platform) has an issue in that all the gears spin but the shafts dont, so at a glance it appears the spider gears in the diff are shot. Makes a 'jumping teeth' noise too. To be fair my gearbox is original. I was 'only' running a 23t motor.

Is this a known problem with these cars? I'm now concerned that if I buy a new gear set that it will just do it again.

Cheers!

The diff on the Raiders and Rocky's were a weak link, often it would either take out the splines on the side gears or the diff joints, other times the spiders in the diff would go. Usually the nylon counter gears would be fine. A Thorp diff would be a good upgrade if you can find one.

Cheers guys.

I was building the car quickly on Sunday night because my daughter wanted to see it run. How's that for an excuse

So, I grabbed my Tamiya Blackcan motor and used that. I ordered a HPi Saturn 20T motor for it that hadn't arrived at the time.

i had one years ago ( red one on the original box) and first there was the std lemans 05 motor in it and then i switched to a 15 or 16 turn motor and it held up pretty well.
it was the first edition of the raider.
offcourse you have to check the gears and diff regulary and clean them and regrease the parts well.
the dogbones and the wheel shafts and the outerdrivecups on the diff were the first to wear out.
you can find replacement parts on ebay !

I think they are a different ratio as the raider uses smaller wheels . To be honest you might be better of with a different truck for a runner the gearbox on these was never the strongest

Yeah, I'm wondering about that. If I'm going to bash it all time I might just kill it.
