Default Discharging problems on a Pro Trak

Hi,

Ive recently bought a second hand Pro Trak, but whenever I try to discharge any of my cells it gets about 10 seconds into the discharge then comes up with a 'Check External Fuse' fault and terminates the discharging.

I've checked the fuses on the sides of the charger and they look ok.

Anybody have any ideas what this might be?

Cheers

Mark

There is a fuse inside the casing, cannot remember exactly where. I had this a lot, also had to send it back once for the discharge fets to be replaced. I ended up selling mine due to this.

Have you checked out the protrak site, or do a search on racechat as that is where I got the info to fix mine.

have you put a dvm across them to make sure?

does it stop altogether or does the discharge display keep counting?

if it's still counting time, mah's etc the discharge fets will more then likely be dead and need replacing

You could also try removing the ROM on the circuit board and refitting it. It's the large one to the left of the keypad and is easily removed. Note the direction it's fitted before removal. Should be a small half moon in the edge that points to the heat sink. After replacement you will need to recalibrate the unit.

calibration info page 10 & 11
starts from were it says Resetting calibration after memory cleared.
You'll need to do static, charge & discharge calibrtaion.

Thanks for the reply! I've just had the case apart but can't seem to see another fuse in there.

Yeah I've checked the Pro-Trak site but there was no info on there, I've emailed Phil at Pro-Track but had no reply so far. I'll have a look on RCrace chat and see if I can find any info on there.

Cheers

Ive checked the fuse with a meter and it is ok.

It just terminates the discharge altogether & goes back to the main menu.

I'll give it a go with removing the ROM and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for your help!

I think the fuse is under the circuit board, I would try to find this before removing the ROM. it took me a while to find it, but trust me there is one in there and it does have this effect if blown.

Tried giving him a ring but there's no answer on the landline and his mobiles off, which I could understand for this time of night.

I'll try again tomorrow if I dont get sorted.

Cheers!

Sorry mate cant help as its 12 months since I got rid of mine, I remember changing it but cannot remember where it was.

As I said it just failed too often on discharge, someone told me that the older ones (20 amp discharge) cannot cope with the new high capacity cells, although if you know what you are doing you can upgrade it by fitting more or bigger fets, but its beyond me.

Good luck in getting it sorted
