Default B4 spur on 501x

Hi Guys, after much fun at West Kent on Sunday with my 501 I want to change the gear ratio as I kept having over heating probs using my speed passion speedo ( now replaced today with losi xcelorin ) and want to use my larger pinions from Tc cars, my question is:

Does the 87 t B4 spur fit straight on to 501? Do I need associated slipper pads?

I use associated slipper pads as they have a tiny bit more grip and are available at my lhs.
