How to fill losi shocks properly

Bonjour! my good lady's Academy has been fitted with old losi shocks, is there a correct way of filling them with oil? I have given it a try but i seem to be getting loads of air inside and loads of oil on the floor!

Fill then up to the bottom of the thread insert the cartridge with the shaft all the way in tighten it up a few turns then pull the shaft out push it back in again and tighten up. That should do the trick.

Hmm my way is different to ashleys. I fill right to the top with shock oil, then i put the piston in with the cartridge to the top of the shock shaft. Next i screw the cartridge in 1 turn and then pull the shock shaft slowly out then slowly back in again and tighten the cartridge up with the shock shaft stull pushed right. Smooooth shocksssss. Id reccomend the nortech whities 'o' rings aswell. These make your shocks alot smoother

Excellent, thanks, i'll give it a wee try. I knew i was doing something wrong when the shock shafts were sucking themselves back in to the shock bodies when fully tightened!!! D'oh!

Its the same way ben its just if you fill them to the top you are just waisting oil and making more of a mess as the cartridge fills the part of the shock body where the thread is.

I think your both being homo`s, just fill the shock body to the threads, screw the cartridge in a few turns, push the piston all the way in and then tighten the cartridge, pump the shock a few times then push in all the way, the shock should rebound about 5mm.

i put the piston/shaft/cartridge into mine with the piston fully extended so the cartridge is next to the ball cup and leave it like that while I tighten it

that's how i do it too mate, i never overfill the dampers then

Similar to mine then chaps, in a way.

And screw the body onto the cartridge, not the other way round,

I do it different again.... the OCD way



Fill the body up to about 1mm below threads.

Slide the cartridge up the shaft to the rodend.

Find the slot on the cartridge.

Hold the body at approx 45 degrees, put cartridge into body with slot upwards.

tighten by turning the body, keeping slot upwards - may have too much pressure at this point.

Pump the shaft like a mofo

loosen (keeping slot to top, 45 degrees) release oil, retighten with RPM tools.

Put on car.

I agree with that

I also try and put the piston into the oil at as much angle as possible to minimise air trapped under it

hehehehe..... hmm i think its all your own preference how you fill your shocks. I really struggled to do associated shocks all the same. So drilled the shock caps for a bleed screw like the yokomo ones which made it alot easier for me to do them
