Default B44.2 gearing

I'm having a little trouble trying to get the right gearing, I'm running 81/20 at the moment with a 5.5 motor and its getting smoking hot, I'm racing indoors on polished gym floor an it's a fairly medium sized track. Does this gearing sound right?

Thanks for looking guys

81 19 on 5.5 ideally or a 20 at a touch no more !
What motor is it?
Is the timing messed with on motor?
Is the speedo setting ok?
Is the meshing ok?

Try this kev, i run a tekin 5.5 in mine and had heat trouble at first.

Put timing down to 0 on the can. I run pinions ranging from 17 up to 22 (yesterday at rhr was on 22). Temps are fine at this. I think can timing is the biggy. Just use timing on the esc if you need a bit more top end.

Edit, seen timing is at 0 allready. Im dumbfounded in this case. Mine actually overheated on the esc. I fixed that by going up 1 pinion. It was hitting top speed too quick so esc was working too hard limiting the current (i think). Many disagreed this was the issue on the day, but it did the trick.

Also i opened up the front end a little and put a few holes in body for some airflow. Every little helps, love the feel of the 5.5 though.

Gearing seems ok unless track is very small. Remove pinion and check there is no tightness in the running gear. Could be something binding or a duff bearing. Failing that it's a motor or ESC fault.

Also check the shell! I have about 10 holes either side in the front vents and middle ones depending on which shell you use
