Default Motor choic

It's been a while since I''ve had time to mess about with my r/c cars. I dusted off my 1/10 Tamiya Dirt Thrasher the other day after not using it for a good few years. It lasted 10 minutes before the motor burned out. I upgraded it when I bought it originally with a Tamiya race motor. Any recomendations as to what I should replace it with? I see that people use "brushless" motors nowadays. Would it be worthwhile going to one of these? What's involved? I don't race but I have a big garden so it will get a lot of abuse and the Dirt Thrasher has always seemed a bit slow.
