Default Importance of diff setting on RB6?

I've recently bought an RB6 and was blown away with how forgining yet direct the car felt on its first practice. The car offered so much steering and didnt feel like it pushed at all. I managed to take TQ at the Bury Metro club Champs at the weekend and was loving every second.

My diff did seen to go gritty after just one meeting however, I put this down to the very high track temperature of last weekend thinning the diff greases so rebuilt the diff and returned yesterday. I now seem to be suffering from noticeable push into the corners which didnt seem to be helped regardless of whether I ran the diff looser or tighter. The diff still feels a little gritty so I intend to rebuild with new plates.

The only difference in setup was the diff setting, track conditions are now super dry and high grip astro due to the lack of rain but to be honest it was bone dry last weekend too. I also bolted on brand new tyres all round and felt about the same.

My mate who has been running the RB6 since Xmas managed to shatter a diff plate due to excess heat at the weekend too, has since rebuilt his diff and suffered the same issue again?



Could anybody shed some light on whether you have suffered similar issues and how to run the diff in super high bite astro...it's the North West Regional at Bury this Sunday so need all the help I can get.

Normally the diffs last a long time! are you using the original kyosho balls in the diff?

Yeah my diff is totally stock, mine is working but went gritty quickly and since then it feels like the car pushes a lot more. The push may have nothing to do with the diff it's just that the diff is the only thing that has changed since weekend.

It is my mate's diff that shattered the plates and melted the main gear. He has had the car since Xmas, his diff is all stock minus he uses Avid carbide balls.

Had mine new in December last year also Chris and I have only rebuilt it once before the southport regional, no new parts just flipped the plates round. Not had any problems myself, sorry. Sounds like you're both running them too tight? The carbide balls will also wear the plates faster.

I've found that the RB6 diff, with the stock Kyosho balls, really performs at it's best with the Xgear greases. No idea why but it does seem to make an impressive difference!

For what it is worth I was super happy with my Lazer diffs until I rebuilt them with the Xgear greases and new Kyosho carbide balls and now they are even better.

I've been running Kyosho cars since 2007 and as yet have never had any form of diff failure outside of normal wear and tear and the diffs tend to last 7-10 meetings before feeling like they could do with some love.

One tip is that some people still build their diffs by bottoming the spring out and then backing it off. I always build it loose and then tighten to just the point I can't get it to slip between finger and thumb with the outdrives held. I then fit it to the car, run it 2-3 minutes per side with the only one wheel on the ground @ about 25% throttle then the same on the opposite side.
Once that is done I then reset it by looking the diff screw and turning the other side wheel until it starts to feel a little resistance building and run it there. Recheck after a run or two but rarely does it need any adjustment.

Thanks for the reply guys. Has anybody experienced push with the car in high grip and how did you solve it?

I'm running Losi black springs up front with standard pistons and Core 500 oil
Losi pink on the rear with standard pistons and core 350 oil

Standard shock positions front and rear, standard front camber link positions with 1mm spacer either side and standard camber link positions on the rear with 0mm inside and 2mm outside spacers

20mm ride height all round.

The rest of the setup is completely stock

What would you suggest I change to try to help this new found push?
