Hi All, Just done the school boy error of plugging the battery in wrong (positive/negative). Cue smoking wire and capacitor. Absolutely gutted
![]() I have plugged back in and have power to the esc as lights are on and steering works but have no throttle. The question is will a new capacitor fix the issue or have I blown the ESC? |

ESCs don't need the capacitor to run, it just helps with efficiency. So it sounds like you've blown it.

Depends what type of speedo and what type of capacitor you have. If the cap has a diode on it then that usually takes the hit for the speedo. If not, you probably have blown the speedo.

Little tip to avoid plugging ESC to battery the wrong way. ( I learned the hard way
![]() Fit one of the connector leads as short as you can so it won't reach the wrong polarity connection ![]() That way even if you try to you wouldn't be able to plug it in the wrong way again. ![]() |

Thanks for the replies.
Funnily enough I did have one wire shorter but then changed to a mid motor and moved bits around. Thus allowing cross over DOH! I have a feeling it's blown. The only bit of hope I had was the ESC still had lights on and flashing. Still we live and learn ![]() Looks like I may need to upgrade the Durango RTR speed controller sooner than anticipated ![]() |

Not necessarily a bad thing!
Lots of combo deals out there, can get yourself an extra motor in the bank for when you gain confidence with the current one! And a shiny speedo which you can program |
