Turnbuckle advice

Please guys, whats the trick in getting the ends on the turnbuckles? I've managed to get 1 end on each, hurting my fingers in the process. I tried heating the plastic up in boiling water but still no joy. Surely there must be a trick?

Twist a scalpel blade or a bodyshell ream lightly in the opening of the rod end before fitting, just removes a small amount of plastic to help get the threads started.

a small amount of black grease will help them adjust easier without popping off the balls when fitted too.

i presume you mean on building a new kit?

if so use a reamer to take a tiny bit of the "flesh" from the cups to help it thread on the turnbuckle

I also use one of those Tamiya `X` shaped spanners as the ball end will fit into the large end of the spanner so makes it easier to turn.

One of the most brutal parts of any kit.

My new kit I didn't use any grease, they are so tight, adjusting them pops them off the ball joint.

I've used grease before, but after trying a drop of shock oil I will never go back!

Yes they are a killer on the 22 ream out and a small amount of black greas or shock oil dos the trick

i put the plastic part in a powerscrewdriver and clamp the turnbuckle in a vice then just screw them on takes about 1 minute to do al 6 of them

Lock lubricant (graphite based) works well.

Open up the end of the ball cup ever so slightly with a reamer or use a bit of grease.
Also, don't forget that the 'other' end will have a reverse thread s you'll be winding the ball cup on in the opposite direction.
