I think there is a brass version,
Cant remember who makes it!
However I thought the same as you, After bending one in a front on smash. But I changed it and was careful not to overtighten the screws, and so far it has not got bent since!

Kev Lee told me they were soft as well, but neither my RB5 or RB6 have bent.
I must just be lucky when I crash.

There is an upgrade front alloy hinge pin brace detailed in the instruction manual and made by Kyosho already. Allegedly much stronger.

( assume thats what you`re all talking about and not the UM721 front suspension mount block )

The upgrade part number is UMW519GM - machined alloy SP version

The standard brace is part number UM720 - pressed alloy

Similar SP upgrade available for the motor plate too which i used from new. Looks and feels a lot better quality.

It's UM720 I think you are referring to. The original seems to be made from a softer alloy, but the new one is the same as all the previous versions for the RB5 and just doesn't bend.

UM720b is the new one and it is identical in shape to the original. I've been running it a few weeks now and despite some hefty head-ons it's still straight

Unless you were referring to the plastic suspension mount block?

I have used the newer um720b for a couple of meetings now and they are a lot better than the stock part, when you replace the bent um720 part also check the um721 as I have twisted a couple of these also I'm assuming they are bending and twisting together.

I have heard that big reds version is good also

I've been using one of these suspension mounts for a couple of months now and they are bomb proof.

Sorry bud, didnt wish to tell you incorrect info so i stand corrected. I got the information from the back of my RB6 manual as per the info about the SP RB5 motor plate. Its certainly correct because its fitted to my car. Very misleading

720B it is then, never heard of that one !

Um519 is for the RB5 width hinge pin holder.
Um702B is bullet proof, never had a problem with um720 but the later one is definitely meatier

Well,

Richard thats the Front rear pin holder, This is not the issue. The front has 2 parts that can get damaged. UM720 is the alu front brace, The original is not very strong, The new B version is fine, The other part is the plastic Pin Holder plate which can get tweaked especially if you have the screws too tight as it distorts and does not fit correct. I think with the new Alu front pin holder and the plate fitted correctly its no longer any problem.

The picture is a screenshot from the RB6 manual that happens to show various upgrade parts. The part in question i underlined. I incorrectly assumed that it was an upgrade part for RB6 part UM720. It even says " instead of what is detailed as UM720 " in the manual ! I'm well aware of what the problem is and which part bends as my own one is bent the same. All I was pointing out is that its a little confusing. There's no mention of " use this brace only if you use the rb5 front lower suspension mount " that's all

Anyway, at least we are now all in the picture.

Richard, You are correct sorry! it was the RB5 front front brace not the front rear. Without having one here to check I guess its a little wider, but if you got it to fit it cant really be much different?

Hi Neil

No problem .

It's the sp motor plate that is fitted to my RB6. It is listed as for the RB5 ( as they share the same part here ). This is what I mean about Kyosho upgrade parts being a little confusing and why I made the error myself.

I was about to order um519 so I'm pleased I didn't

Cheers

Somewhere I have a table I put together with all the combinations of rear end components, I'll dig it out and add the front end components and post it up ... don't hold your breath as with my mother in hospital I have zero free time at the moment, probably been a week or two.
