Default Lipo with vintage speedo

For reasons I'll not explain I need a new battery. It's only for bashing but was thinking of trying lipo. I have an old brushed set up but i have a new receiver with a fail safe. I've heard you can't fully discharge lipo, will the failsafe do? Will it work with an old set up and is it worth it? I have a multi charger so that's not an issue.

Cheers

Rich

You probably wouldn't feel that much performance gain, but run time would increase massively. The cut off prevents the lipos from dropping below 0.3v per cell, but make sure it is a lipo safety cutoff like this http://www.jemodels.com/electric-mod...FczHtAodJ2YAaQ
To charge lipos, almost all are rated at 1c. That means for a 5000mah battery = 5.0a, 6100mah = 6.1a.

Buggy - did you mean 3.0v per cell? At 0.3v per cell wouldn't the LiPo be trashed? That's what all the LiPo manufacturers tell us - 3.0v per cell absolute minimum, 3.2v per cell preferred.

sorry to disagree but from nimh pack to lipo is like changing your motor or fitting a turbo!.i have run 2 different brushed setups with lipos with no problems at all but i only run them on 25c rated battery not bigger more expensive ones.mate changed his nimh pack to a lipo in his maverick strada 4wd and couldnt beleive the performance difference, again running 25c lipos.

Run with the lipo, the weight change will interesting, extra bit of power, longer run time etc, you would not want to run for more than 10 minutes or your motor may become abit warm, but you can see how you go and adapt.

Make sure you have a lipo dedicated charger, always double check the settings if you are mixing batteries, a reasonable lipo charger will give you a voltage reading and tell you whats been put back in, if you are careful you will not go anywhere near 3.2V/cell. Topup & run - perfect

Thanks for the advice, I already have a decent charger so no worries there. Any tips on where to find a cheap low voltage fut off? I've seen plenty of alarms but would prefer a cut off so it's foolproof!

Only ever seen the novak one, but for that price you could get a cheap speedo with the cutoff built in..
