Default Coming back from the 80s

Morning Guys I posted this a few days ago then realized Batley has its own area ( doh ).

I used to race for ABC on horsforth in the 80s with my modded Hotshot, and am now wanting to start building them again, and racing. After a few posts on the other thread Id say that you all now use Brushless and batteries run for 20 mins <<<<< is that right ??? how long they take to charge ?

So I got excited, I wont go into too much details as the other thread says it all, but I wanted to strike up a relationship with you all and hopefully get back up to speed. So if any of you are close to farsley near Pudsey, and would entertain me for a coffee and a catch up on whats changed since the days of the late 80s id be grateful.
I raced at ABC ( Aire Valley Buggy Club ) for over 4 years, and the last regional I was in was where some big hitter came with what was MEGA new and called the Schumacher CAT, he was sponsored by them. I see the Cats still about and a K1 is 1 of the ones Im gonna buy.

I won my final which I think was E got a spangly trophy, and he won the A. Miss those days to be honest was fun.

Does anybody know who the guys who had the small shop there by the track, im sure they were part of Modelsports when they were at the back of the newsagents, Ian seems to ring a bell.

Anyway thanks for reading post link is.

Hi.... I was very involved at Aire Valley both at Horsforth and later at Apperley Bridge.. After many years lay off I returned to racing a couple of years back with my grandsons ! All I can say is that racing is relatively easier and cheaper with the current electrics.. Brushless motors and lipo batteries. Always raced the RC 10 and now use the current B4 and C4.1. still excellent cars..although there is a much greater choice of competitive cars these days.
Just get yourself to Batley Buggy Club ..this Sunday would be good.. You might be surprised, there are still some of the old AVBC members about.!

Just call down to Batley and have a chat, there are a few of us that raced back in the 80's
I raced at Aire Valley a few times myself, probably around 1987/88?? I seem to remember it being on a field behind a Rugby club??

Think I was there between 86 89 ish, we used to race in that sports hall in horsforth, which was a nightmare when condensation was on the floor. And then at airbrough rugby club up near the old ball pub,

I never went to apply bridge I'd sold it I think by then and was into women and beer.

I've just bought a hotshot 2 on eBay to mess with, and will buy a proper one soonish, most probably either the k1 or the rc10 442.

But tomorrow I've got to decide which brushed motor to buy from modelsport that will be fast but won't melt my car, but also which of these new fangled lips battery will fit in the he olde hotshot.

Appreciate the responses,

Hey just had a flashback didn't u guys use a zx spectrum to lap count back then hehe

Wow... I remember just about everyone on that photo... But where was I ..!?
Must have been taking the photo..!
Probably the inter-club championship (York, Batley, Halifax, and Aire Valley )
Aire Valley always won, of course !
Is " Brett's ". Brett standsfield by any chance ?

Back to the thread.... Take your hotshot into Modelsport and take their advice. And yes we had a Spectrum computer but that was after we modernised from counting laps on a sheet of paper..!,! We copied the computer system from Batley..with the help of Mike Forster, who organised Batley in those days....

Yep it is, I'm still doing a bit of racing at York these days. I'd noticed Aire valley's postings about the good old days a few weeks back.

Not got the time or the money to mix it with the 'big boys' anymore. Wife and kids keep me poor.

Hi Brett.. thought it was you..
lost touch with most of those people unfortunately.. however, Colin Gill ( and family ! ), Steve Lawson, Shimmy Butt still appear at Batley..I now go, when I can, with my grandsons !!! Still enjoy it and I think they do too! I was hoping to get to York but it is a bit late on Saturday nights for the boys...You should try Batley one Sunday.

Wow names I remember

Alan and Colin, however you will never rem me lol, probably because you were the main men at the time.

Alan was the guy that sold stuff right?

I'm going to go to batley either tomorrow or next week I'm going to post to see if anybody will talk to me when I come.

Easier if I have a name to ask for

Rob

FYI I used to race with a guy called Richard Oxley

I went to my dads yesterday and saw all my old rosettes hehe from abc

Do we have any tracks near pudsey horseforth area ?

Nearest is Cullingworth (10Electric), or indeed, Batley.

Alan, have you still got any of your old gold tub Rc10's with the drilled out chassis?

It would be nice to go racing on a Sunday at Batley. Just can't fit a whole day in at the moment, maybe once my lad starts wanting to have a go.

Hi Brett.. Yes I think I have an original RC10 in the shed....we spent hours drilling out the chassis to save a few ounces !! I still have a 1992 worlds RC10 fully working with black metal chassis complete with an Airtronics 27Fm transmitter that Cliff Lett (then Associateds main man )gave me at the 1992 Reedy race!...plus various others!
Batley normally runs on Sunday afternoons from 1 - 6 so quite convenient..

ooo how I used to swoon at the Rc10, I still see Richards Dad Alan around, but Rich I don't see as often now. I hazard a guess hes still got his Hotshot though.

I remember buying demon HT from you, and turbo drops to try squeeze more power from the car.

I also rem sometimes at ABC the sportshall had like condensation on it, and unless you run spikes it was like a skating Rink.

Just got back from Modelsports I bought a K1 and Rc10 44.2 only the kits for now as I need to work out how batley races.

IE back in the day you had 380 then 540 races, but I hear its all about Turns now in a motor.

I was just about to buy a speed passion 6.5 but hung fire till I work it all out.
Might see you there if any of you go tomorrow.

let me know anyway, I,ll try get over
