Hi all,
I just need some recommendations for some good strong Threadlock ? I have been using Tamiya for years - its excellent for M3 screws on Alu parts but not so great for diff screws, as I am finding that they keep getting lose after each race. If anybody can let me know what they have found to be an effective and strong product ? Please let me know - Cheers. |

I like the Tamiya stuff myself but it's more gummy than hard-setting. The Tamiya 'Anaerobic gel' is good stuff - it comes in a lot of their kits now I think.
Otherwise I use some proper loctite stuff which isn't to hand so I can't remember the name of it.

I use the AE threadlock: http://www.rccarshop.co.uk/index.php...-adhesive.html
I think it's loctite in an AE branded bottle. It works well, far better than some red loctite stuff I got with a Schumacher kit. I also have some blue tamiya goo stuff in the metal tube. I heard it was unavailable now?

I use Loctite 243 Lock N Seal. I use medium strength and it works great, but I know of 271 which is very high strength and will not allow anything to work loose (breakaway force is 26nm!)

I use Delta D44 screw lock. D44 is low strength and is to stop screws loosening through vibration only, meaning you can still undo them and adjust things. It is quite strong though and if i use to much can get stuck.
One thing i did do on the ansmann diff screws was to paint a line of threadlock on the screw and leave it to set over night, then built the diff. |

I tend to find the liquid threadlocks a pain in the bum with it being hard to control the amount that is applied, usually using too much.
I use Loctite 248 which comes in a Prit Stick type dispenser and is much easier to use and lasts for ages, but is probably a bit stronger than I'd like but as its easy to control the amount you apply just use a bit less. It's like a gel and is easily applied. You can find it here: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_255230 As a general rule of thumb with Loctite threadlockers anything in the 22x range (221,222,225 etc) are low strength, 24x medium strength and 27x high strength and considered to be permanent!!! I would never ever use anything from the 27x on RC stuff, you'll require heat to break the threadlock!!! Don't forget to clean all parts that will be threadlocked with a electrical/brake cleaner beforehand. Last edited by badger5; 21-02-2013 at 08:40 AM. Reason: Added link |
