Default dead cell resurection...

Got a pack of enerG 4600's with a cell that drops it's light off instantly even when set to 0.1v on the novak smart tray...

Should I drop the whole pack to 0.1v and then give it a good charge once it's cooled down (so within 20 mins of finishing) to see if that sorts it out?

or is that really risky and could kill the other 5 good cells?

I have a Robitronic Overloader and a Novak millennium Pro charger to use if they have any special settings I can make use of?

Probably better to charge that cell on it's own up to 0.9V or whatever you're using, then see if you can equalize and cycle the whole pack. But if it's a dead cell there's not alot you can do...

Has the cell self discharged in storage? Or had you just tried charging it before it dropped straight off?

Normally the dead cells can be kickstarted with a charge, if it false peaks a lot try a lower rate and monitor the temperature.

Out of my three (ageing) NiMH packs, two cells drop off in storage, one in particular is very bad, I've kickstarted it many times and although the pack is not as good as it could be, it works just fine for club racing.

I bought 4x 6 cell packs of enerG 4600's off ebay

they were listed as 6 months old well looked after. he's charged them before sending them which was nice. the 1st pack I discharged to 0.9v on the smart tray and gave it a charge and it false peaked. a friend suggested I dropped it to 0.1v on the tray and that should fix it which it did.

so I dropped the 2nd pack to the same 0.1v and then found a dead cell. don't know if I caused it or it was like it already.

Personally I would discharge the whole pack to 0.9V per cell, then half charge the pack, say put 2000mAh into it, then discharge all back to 0.9V. If you do this a few times you should bring the dead cell up to capacity and not over charge the other cells. If you do this a few times and the "dead" cell still doesn't reach 0.9V then I'm not sure what else to try.

just ordered a single cell so that should sort it out now.

was a bit worried that I took the whole pack to 0.1 a cell again and then after them cooling down fully charged them back up and they apparently took 4606mah lol

slightly worried the other 5 took too much now...

I'll see what the pack is like once I've replaced the cell.

i have a cell like that
just equalise the whole pack and recharge and its fine as long as you charge it fully just before the race
