Default Motor Timing- Fusion Exceed in particular

Hi all,

So I have been having some temperature issues with my Dex410 and have found a few things that certainly won't have been helping but it is still pretty HOT. After a good practice session on Sunday it came off at over 89c which is much hotter than I'd like (even though it had run for well over 5 mins).

I am running a Fusion exceed 6.5T motor and it appears that the gearing I have is well within the usual range (thanks to those who commented on a previous thread).

I have used the motor before in another car where it was fine but on sunday I noticed that the timing indicator was (with the pinion facing away from me) all the way over to the right. I have no idea if this is where it should be as I would expect it to be in the middle (and I have a vague memory of it being in the middle when I got it). I can't find any suggestion if this had advanced or retarded the timing and was wondering if anyone knows?

I can, of course, just play with it but I don't want to make the situation any worse as I am worried about damaging the motor.

Both of mine are in the middle.
(99% sure on this, but can double check tonight.)

Put it in the middle and give it a quick run, is it slower of faster? If so you'll know which way it should go for advance (faster but hotter) and retardation (slower but cooler).

On my SX3 you can get to the motor endbell easily while it's in the car so you can do this on a car stand when the motor is running and the difference is easy to spot.

yup, right in the middle.
I've only ever used the timing options on the ESC, never bothered with the mechanical timing! (motors quick enough anyway!)

Turn it the opposite way to the motor rotation to advance the timing, so by the sound of it yours is the same way and therefore retarded.
