Default Brushless Optima Mid

I thought I'd post some pics of my Optima mid resto, the plan is to have a bit of vintage racing at silverstone with Adam and co.

The car started off as cheap ebay shed, not nice enough to be a shelfer so idea to run.

Things left to do are new shell, undertray, and wing. Belt and gear covers, some 2.2" wheels (anyone know whats best to keep the offsets right? I was thinking of trying ZX5 RTR ones as they share the ZX-R part No.s) new front driveshafts (again thinking of trying some ZX5 ones) maybe an improved slipper and a few random screws (m2.6? really? thanks Mr Kyosho ).

Ignore the wheels they are Fastraxx and wrong offset. I have ZX5 wheels on the mid.

Cool, Zx5 CDV's it is, are the ZX5 wheels you're using the earlier dished ones? Do they have a similar offset as the seem to share part No.s with the ZX-R.

Nice thread

I'm doing a brushless ZX-R now but ultimately will do a brushless Mid also.

What's the part no of the ZX5 driveshafts you've used, are they a direct fit with no mods?

Cheers,

Dan

Driveshaft part number is LA245. They are 62.5mm in length. They do need shimming a bit but not much and not enough to worry about if its being raced.

The wheels on it in the pic above are Fastrax and very wrong offset wise. It's got ZX5 wheels on in the pic below and the offset looks right to me. I haven't measured it but it looks right.

Nice Mid there mate! What shocks are they? Do you have any more pics of the body? I haven't seen a Turbo Special with the alternative blue/yellow stickers before. I have the Marwan decals in both red/white and the blue/yellow so I'd like a better look at the body.

Also, do you have the CVD's at the back as well or just the front?

Keith I reckon they're Kyosho velvets from a ZX5- FS if I'm not mistaken!

Edd your car looks great and exactly what I am aiming for.

DT racing are cutting me a copy of my 7 cell TOMS conversion kit chassis from CF together with a top deck, shock towers and motor plate. I also have the ZX-5 white dish wheels en route.

I also have a new body, undertray, wing and decals from our friend in Kuwait.

I'll get some of the driveshafts thanks for the info

Dan

Looking good James.... I'm looking forward to seeing these cars flying around together on Silverstone's Astro!

@ Eddscott - your Optima with the 'Velvets' & ZX5 wheels, looks like something out of Kyosho's 2013 catalogue.

Edd, what wheel hexes and pins are you using on the driveshafts? I saw another pic in your other thread and they look blue, are they FS items too?

Cheers,

Dan

http://www.fibre-lyte.co.uk/fl/cars/...optimamid.html

Shocks are Velvets. I used them on this and my Egress (before the HiCaps were re-releasted. CVDs front and rear, its got geared diffs in it but I have the ball diffs and front one way. The hexes are just cheapo jobs off ebay and to be honest they are a bit too thick. They are also a pain when the fall off and the pin falls out. The Egress rebuild (mostly from a Vajra) has captive hexes which are much narrower and would be much better. Just haven't got round to getting them. They aren't runners so it wasn't a priority.

James, might have some driveshafts in my spares box that would do the job...

Would be sold on the condition that if your car performs better than mine I will take them back...

Could you measure the width of you car front and rear for me with those wheels on? Mine is approx 235mm F and 245mm R sat with driveshafts level to the outeredge of the wheel but not including tyre overhang. I really wouldn't want to lose any more trackwidth, more worried about the front tbh.

Still looking for help with wheel options for this, the closest i've found to the right offset are ansmann / team c 2wd rears but the fronts are miles off, I could use cut down rears on the front but would rather find a bolt on solution.
