Ball Diff .... again sorry !!

Having recently swapped to the ball diff to help in wet weather grip i now cant seem to get the slipper set properly. I am not sure if i have overtightened the diff and damaged something or not ??

The slipper setup has been put back as it was with the gear diff in and this was able to be setup and tightened as required. Diff has been run in and it works fine, just the slipper for no apparent obvious reason. Rapidly running out of patience with it now

Are you using the Kit slipper pads? They are not the greatest.

Sorry should have said, RW spur and schumacher pads. Both or which are good with plenty of life left in them

I used the Schumacher pads, had no end of trouble, went to the AE High Torque ones and im as happy as a pig in Sh*t

Try them, they are more consistent and dont heat up

do you have a kit spurgear to try?

the tolerances on the slipper assembly are very tight, if your spurgear and/or your pads are a little too thin, it will be impossible to tighten everything up fully.

Tried both spurs with the same pads so will try swapping them out. Seems strange they are ok with the gear diff and all of a sudden not with no running/other changes .....

Could be the layshaft spacer has been squashed, there is a stronger replacement available now...

Spacer is the original one but it has been modified (previously to this) with the steel shims at each end. Could be damaged i guess ....

dont over tighten your diff, if you do it will pop the circlip out and you'll never know about it as when you take the diff apart it will pop back in.
check the diff build guide and build the diff very carefully
make sure you clean the diff as suggested as there tends to be a fair bit of residue in the parts.
make sure your circlip is in the right way around as well as can be seen in the video on the website one side is slightly rounded.

Dont use the standard tighten the diff fully then back it off a bit, method of building the diff as this will pop the circlip.

The associated slipper pads are far better than the kit standard(sorry Durango, but its true) for £8 they are worth investing in.

I suspect i have overtightened the diff and screwed the circlip. Its in the right way around and built in accordance with the online instructions. Time to replace that i guess

+1 on the AE slipper pads, far better than the kit ones.

Just to close this off in case anyone searches on the issue, i replaced the circlip with a new one, fitted as per the online instructions and it is now perfect. Can only assume the original circlip was damaged at installation some how.
