Track For Sunday 28th

Hey Guys,

Ive put a plan together for the Track on the 28th. (See Below)
I've not placed any of the small jumps, We can have a look at that on the day.

I have placed the table top, And I've got a few ideas how we can use the matt's too. But again we will have to have a look on the day.

As per normal we will be using a mixture of carpet and the polished floor.

The Rostrum will be in the normal place. (Bottom of the plan), Race control will be in the bottom left hand corner.
So here it is! Thoughts?

If you put the tabletop where you have it in that diagram you might not be able to see the apex of the two corners behind it.

The table top is only small, Made from benches, The height SHOULD be ok...
It can always be moved. Our rostrum is pretty heigh.

Just something to keep in mind. Also, i'm assuming run up and landing will be carpet, and the sweeper at the end of the straight? Slippery bits on any other parts would be fine.

The sweeper will be polished floor as per normal.
That's 100%

The landing to the jumps will be carpet.

Then we will have some carpet dotted around.
Looks at 50/50 split between carpet and wood

Like the look of that Matt. For somebody who hasn't raced buggies on a MRI surface indoor track before, are Schuey yellow minipins gonna offer any grip at all on a polished wood floor? I'm very puzzled by tyre choice here as you say it will be around a 50/50 mix of carpet and wood.

Will we be able to jump the table top bank to bank from a sharp slow corner as shown? Just thinking about the speed needed to jump it

I ran new minispikes last year. very good on the slippy floor

All depends on the track layout.
If you've not got enough grip on the slippy stuff your gonna lose alot of time.
Minispikes gave a good balance, a little to much for the carpet but the carpet was mainly used in the tight sections so your going slow anyway. Pins on the slippy stuff are like ice skating.

Now if you would kindly highlight the racing line in something bright for the old, infirm and partially sighted amongst us that would be fine and dandy.

I know you were in the boy scouts so it is your duty to help the old folk. There's a shiny new 5p in it for you.

Seems to depend on the car. With 4wd I found pins all round better on the slippery stuff, but it can be a bit aggressive on the carpet.
For 2wd I found slightly worn minispikes worked nicely - these grip the slippery floor quite well (better than pins) and whilst they aren't as good on the carpet it smoothed the transition between the surfaces.

Clocks go back on Sunday... so anyone who forgets and turns up at what they think is 9am will be there alone at what is really 8am

I ran 4WD most of last year, I ran mini-pins all around.
New ones don't work... Make sure you scrub them in.

I ran near bald yellow mini-spike on my 2WD at the weekend, They worked better that the pins.
I will be starting my setup with worn Mini-Spike Rears & worn Mini-Pin Fronts.

I find you don't need the mechanical grip from the spike, The grip comes from the soft rubber.

The track will get more & more grippy through the day as it warms up, Also when the dust has gone, Stay on the racing line though!
If you go wide and hit dusty wood your done for haha!

I like the wooden floor more than carpet!, If your car is setup right its just as easy to drive on.

Word of advice, Keep your motors slow, No need to go above 7.5t
If you do you will struggle.

Sounds good Matt. I was asking as I was wondering how a minipin with a small surface area would generate enough traction. I've got some worn minispikes at the ready aswell as somE minipins that have done 3 runs on carpet.

While I'm here is there any mains power in the hall?

Yep we have mains.

We pit in the hall next door, So plenty of space!
