Hi

Thought I'd say hello as I've just joined the forum.

After more than 15 years away from RC racing, I recently dug out my old Schumacher CAT 2000 EC and decided to clean it up. A week later and I've had post arriving every day from Apex Models - mainly purple screws and nuts!! I came across (not literally) Fibre-Lyte and couldn't help ordering some carbon bits for it too!

I used to race a bit (Preston and Chorley) during the mid 90's - makes me feel old saying that!! I've owned a Schumacher Cougar 2, a Cougar 2000 and I still have my old Schumacher Cat 2000 EC.

After doing a lot of googling and reading this last week, it's awesome how the technology has evolved with lipo's and brushless motors! OMG I can see this costing a fortune, the Mrs is not going to be happy!

ps - sorry if this post is in the wrong place

Cheers,
Andy

Its good to see someone getting back into the hobby. Believe me, when you try brushless and lipos, the difference between what you used to run and that will amaze you. You said it would cost a lot, but it doesn't have to. Etronix do sensorless brushless combos for about £60, and are great for getting into brushless. For lipos, you could get a battery and charger for £50, but make sure you do your homework as they are dangerous if handled incorrectly. Good luck with your shopping/research/racing!

You make that sound scary All batteries are dangerous if handled incorrectly.
You should say " make sure you handle them correctly", doesnt sound so off putting.. Plus its not as easy to short out lipos like it was with nihms and nicads, as they fully insulated where as nihms etc had exposed cell terminals. which could touch if chucked in your pit box.

I was just making sure we didn't end up with an exploding battery and/or man
But no, lipos aren't scary, just respect them and you'll be fine.

Cheers guys. Yeah I'll be careful! I have read about the dangers and won't go jumping into anything without doing my research first.
