RB5 Vega rear toe mod!

Hi There, I tried something this weekend on my car and it was VERY good, so good that i just had to share it, so here goes. I fitted the narrow RF block to the front of the rear arms and the wider RR2 block on the back. My reason was after looking at the petite site for reference on the inserts at the back of the ZX5FS i noticed it said that for every step ie: A to B is 1/2 degree and .75mm so, transferred over to the RB5 (they use the same arms so the blocks are the same distance apart) a 1mm per side change should result in an increase in rear toe of .66666 r or .67 for short so you end up with 3.67deg inboard toe and you can ditch the expensive alloy blocks and have slop free hubs once more. My car was a real joy to drive again.

There is a chart made by Fabs on the PetitRC site that says that using front RF and rear RR2 gives 4.5 toe at wheels.

Yep, much nearer 4.5 ... it will be 0.67 PER SIDE extra so 3+.67+.67=4.34deg. When you bear in mind the effect of running the toe in inboard is a little different to running it outboard you will find the car handles as if it has more toe in than if it was split across the in & out hinge pin axises.

In which conditions you want to drive a Vega with 4.5 degree toe?

You could also do the reverse on very high bite tracks: for the front block you take a wide block and for the rear block a small block, so you go to 2 degree of toe.

Another question that rises my mind when I read this is: is 3degree blocks + 1 degree aloy hub the same as 4degree(achieved from toe blocks, zero hub) ? Is there a difference in handling?

That doesn't make sense! I thought it had 3degs per side as measured from the centre line of the chassis, thus 3.67 per side. What your implying is that it's 3 deg between the pins ? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, Roger forgot that it was 3deg per side, but his maths are still correct as I believe that the difference between RR/RF and RR2/FF2 blocks is 2mm per side and not overall.
So that's 3+.67+.67=4.34deg per side.

Get some vernier calipers and check for yourself, 3mm total or 1.5mm per side as I've just discovered, so should be 4degs total toe in. Best i check properly before I open my mouth next time. It's now official, lol

No i have not but, i have run it on powdery covered dirt and it was good, better than a B4, the blokey i rinsed has bought a Vega since trying mine and sold his trusty B4 too.

Blokey & Rinsed!! bit harsh, you may force me to point out what I have rinsed your vega with a few times....ahh just monkeying with you.
