I've been having some strange symptoms from the car recently
Mostly - sometimes very jumpy to accelerate from a standstill as if the batteries are flat and it almost doesn't have any power but they are not Sometimes not engaging reverse Top speed sometimes slow Inconsistent throttle response - sometimes feels like the batteries are flat when they are not Also a ticking noise when at standstill (not the servo) and sometimes a screeching noise when accelerating but I'm not sure if this is the slipper clutch - I don't think so.. This problem has been getting worse today I pulled the car in and changed to new batteries in case it was them but then with the throttle at full and holding the car in my hand there seems to be intermittent power to the motor you can hear it cut out briefly. I tried to re-calibrate/re-initialise the ESC but now just has a red light - won't beep when I power on with the throttle to full to start the procedure. Initially I thought is was the contacts of leads to/from the batteries or the connection to the motor but I've cleaned and checked these and there is no obvious problem there. I can check voltage coming out of the lipo cells with a multimeter but I don't think there is anything else to check. So does this sound like the ESC is faulty? It's a reedy 450 if that makes any odds?

take your motor apart and see if the rotor in the middle has come loose on the shaft

Motor's apart - doesn't seem like the rotor is loose on the shaft or anything.
Five little brass bushings came off the shaft - long one at the front, 2x small ones at the back but 2 small ones fell off and I didn't see which end - will it matter where I put them (which end of the shaft)?

Checked the voltage out the batteries to the ESC - 8.2v so good there.
I read another post about a failed ESC and it mentioned it was getting hot and smoking - mine has not got hot at all AFAIK. Would my symptoms match those of a failed ESC

Put the motor back together and it seems to work normally now - the ESC even calibrates without a motor attached - so why the red light and no power to the motor before?
One of the connections to the motor is a bit dirty - could it be that? (how would that stop the ESC calibrating OK) I'll clean it but can I buy a replacement - little bullet connector that goes straight onto the circuit board. Problem is I'm expecting all this to play up again the next time I go to use the car.....

Are the end point of your tranny set correctly?
Do you think you are getting receiver glitching? Tried a power cap in receiver? Otherwise, the ESC needs looking at. |
