I bought my X6 a couple of weeks ago, along with Rich Davis, we've both nticed today that both the cars have cracked chassis's. They've cracked where the rear most front kick up plate screws thread differectly into the chassis, infront of the servo post, parallel to where the bolts go through. Both cars have identical damage.
Just wondered if anyone else has suffered this problem, or whether we've got a couple of freak chassis's. I can understand them cracking if we hadn't tapped the holes - but we have. cheers |

never had a problem with that area, is there any chance you might have over tightened the screws and spread the holes

We have experienced the occasional breakage here, sometimes on initial assembly. We think the hole may be slightly undersized, and will address this in the next production run.
Amazingly, it seems not to matter, and those with the problem successfully run their cars for long periods crack and all. See the forum at www.2wdrc.com If your car is broken beyond use, see the dealer who sold it and, assuming he has a #1001 chassis in stock, he should replace it. We will in turn replace the part for him at no charge. If your car seems tight and will run, please run it; the threaded insert does most of the work and you should be fine. As I said above, about 10% of the chassies have this problem and we have yet to see one that does not perform well anyway. Probably over-engineered... |

I saw the damage to the chassis yesterday an it does look like the holes are undersized. Don't know if they have been like this from building but i'm sure Gordy will say. Have to say that the cars did look good there

Can't put pic up at the moment. Camera battery flat. Glad to hear it's not just ours that have done it. I said to Rich exactly what Chaz has just said, there's so much meat around the base of the chassis, that I doubt it will cause a problem atall. I was just curious to see whether anyone else had the problem.
The car's great - just got to learnn how to drive it properly! It drives so different from a normal 2wd. |

must admit i built mine friday and the holes are very tight
did anybody come across a hardware problem with the screws at the front that go into the insert ? when it came to putting the screws in that hold the b4 top plate in they where far to long and same for the insert screws,had to sort this myself

Only problem I had was a hole wasn't drilled for the gearbox screws. Just a case of redrilling it

Ha Ha, yeah it's quick!
Might have something to do with the 4.5 in it. Not something you'd normally run in a 2wd, but the X6 seems to cope quite well. Was quite happy with the laps I was putting in, I think my best was 11 laps in 5min 05 secs which I'm quite chuffed with, because I think Mossy was only doing 12 laps with the 4wd Cat - correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway whatever I'm really chuffed with the car. |

Do the screws still tighten up ok?

i had the same problem rob,just took the dremel to it and drilled it,did your nose peice fasten together ok ?

yea the cracks do look like stress marks. Screws still tighten up fine, and I have no doubt they wont cause any further problems.

Chazz is (not surprisingly) right, the holoes are a wafer undersize and if you use a long screw it can stress the holes out. Tapping is better (as always) but if it holds fine then you should be fine.
The upgrades nose pieces from last year mean the nose should last the life of the car and so you'll most likely never have to take those screws out ever again!
