Default printer probs

having problems with my hp photosmart d7100, it wont accept a new cartridge saying ( the following ink cartridge cannot be used after device intialization and must be replaced ) its a new cartridge so i aint happy , any ideas anyone on how i could maybe reset the printer ?

Is it a compatible cartridge or a proper HP cartridge ?

its a proper hp cartridge

I know with the laserjets at work, you can reset them by holding down the green tick button when you switch it on and do a 'cold' reset. I am not sure if you can do anything else like this. Otherwise take it back to the shop with the receipt and get a new one. It could be a faulty cartridge....

I took a dodgy light bulb back as it only lasted a day before going pop. They gave me a new one straight away.
