Default Kyosho Small Bore Springs on AE shocks.

I'm after some clarification on the actual rate of the Laxer ZX-5 Kyosho front Silver spring KYOW5181-09 #70. I know these are not the same spring/rate as the RB-5 silver front, which I believe to be softer and shorter.

I've started this thread in the Kyosho forum, but thought i'd open it up to the AE forum, as people are using them on their B4.1/C4.1 cars to replace the AE silver fronts.

In most of the spring charts I've seen the the kyo silvers are down as 3.3lb/in, which is much softer than the AE silver. It was my understanding from talking to a few people, and reading that they were a much closer rate to the AE silver. I think the charts have got them mixed up with the RB5 silver spring, and have missed off the real rate of the ZX-5 spring. It's a general given that the silver AE spring is one of the all round best rates to use, certainly as a starting point on the car, but its a short spring, so does not have the best operation and movement on the shock, plus its loaded quite a bit when the colar is wound down to give the required ride height. I'm looking to replace it with a better fitting spring, but have decided against the big bore route, and noticed that a lot of top people are using the small bore kyo springs.

So anyone know the actual correct rate of the spring in question?

On a side note, what can I do to stop bending rear shock shafts?

Please can you point me at this reference so I can see it with my own eyes. I've not found anything from Kyosho, other than their numbering system, #70, etc

Sorry I can't do that.
The information is correct and if you are driving a C4.1 Centro as your signature sugests, I would try a Yellow rear Kyosho like all the top Associated driver often use - That is a 2.06 rated

Yes some have arrived today, along with cobalt rears and silver fronts. I trust the rear rates, they make sense to me.

The rating of the kyo front silver doesn't. If it was (3.30), then why haven't people running Associated green(3.5) or black(3.2) front on their B4 or C4 cars more often? People generally run the AE silver (3.85) or blue (4.2) on their cars, and it's a given that they are the sort of rates people use on uk style tracks. The top guys started to replace their springs, and I've seen lots of setup sheets and drivers using the kyo silvers. I've been told they are a similar rate to AE silvers, but the charts that are in circulation put them at 3.3? I'm throwing it in there that the person creating a chart measured or has a rating for the other kyosho silver spring of the RB-5 (which are known to be short and soft), and it's gone in the charts as 3.3, when the spring people are using on the C4/B4 cars is the ZX-5, which is possibly a different rate. I've found no conclusive evidence to say exactly what they are.

Mine that arrived this morning have gone on the front now, and they don't feel light, but feel similar to the AE silvers, with the advantages of no contact with the shock body, and not running the collars at the end of the shock. I'll test on the track Sunday.

Sorry Neil we don't know each other and I cannot advice on Associated cars more than the drivers that use our products tell us.
I would say just stick them on the car and even if you do a few laps, see how they feel and go from there. Silvers front Kyosho are 3.3.
In my eyes I couldn't care if they were 15.9 as a figure. Its what is faster and feels easy to drive that counts
