Reading how well darren did with the xx4 in the euros thred and also seeing the new Xray 4wd that is said to be "another BJ4we copy" I started to wonder why so many cars have used the BJ4 type layout but no one has copied the xx4? is it a copy right patent thing? did losi spend a fortune on patent rights and Jconcepts did not
![]() ok fair enough after the xx4 a lot of 4wd's motors headed up the front of the car, but I have yet to see an xx4 clone I'm not saying the BJ4we wasn't a great car, but the xx4 seems a legend and the other legendary car, the RC10 inspired many other 2wd designs

From what I can make out, all modern cars copy the geometry of the xx4. It was the drivetrain that was the problem - hence the X5

I think the geometry of the xx4 has been used on other cars (although only once or twice i think), but there are so many other factors that maybe haven't been copied. When you try and copy one element, but then don't copy others, it doesn't work.
Everyone critisised the 3 belt layout of the xx4, but who knows, maybe it was one of the things that made it work...........

The Schumacher SX3 is the closest i design to the XX4
Front mounted Motor, Rear cell chassis layout, 3 Belt drive train Arms/hubs etc fit the XX4 and most users run SX3 arms on their XX4's already

The SX line of cars do indeed have some elements that are similar to the xx4, there is no secret there!! However, there are many other parts (that make a big influence) that aren't the same.
Weather it's a "modern day xx4" I don't know, as I don't have an SX3 - although I have still got a xx4 somewhere!!!

My guess would be cost. A XX4 has more parts, so less profit than a simpler BJ4x4 design.

Its more down to the fact that the TC world was going shaft drive (the BJ4 and for that matter the Durango started life as offroad versions of the TC3) and everyone wanted in on the game. Even though the XX4 was still winning, belts weren't cool.....
