Default Hobbywing LCD Program Box USB download

I purchased an XERUN 150A R/C Car ESC and an LCD Program Box:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/110880838109...84.m1439.l2649

Reading the instruction manual for the program box it tells me to download the USB LInk Software, but when I try and do this my computer says "windows cannot open this file".

Currently I have downloaded the software, but there seems to be no way to run the aprropriate file as the instructions say. To help anyone reading this my computer has Windows 7, and Internet Explorer 9 and Mozilla Firefox browsers. I've tried using both browsers but in both cases there seems to be no way to run the file. Hope someone can help!

I think it is a .rar file needing winrar from rarlabs.com or 7zip from 7zip.org

Yes, it said it was a .rar file (Although I have no idea what that is!). Is that a seperate piece of software I need to download to run the Hobbywing file?

A .rar file is a compressed file containing several other files. Unfortunately Windows can't cope with this type of file on its own and needs some software to extract the files contained inside it.

If you Google winrar and download it (probably from CNET or somewhere like that), install it and then double click on the hobbywing file it will open up in a winrar window so you can access the files. Extract these to your desktop (they'll be a toolbar button to do this easily) and then install hobbywing software from those extracted files.

I'm a work and a zealous firewall prevents me from doing it and posting the stages up here but it's easier to do than it sounds (my 65 YO dad can do it).

Hope that helps.

Ian

I've just tried this and it appears to work. It said something about me downloading a 32-bit .rar file onto a 64-bit system (apparently it will perform better if I uninstall it and download a 64-bit file) but I can access the HW USB Link on the desktop.

I haven't actually tried hooking up the LCD Prog Box/Speedo to the PC yet-i'll only be brave enough to try that once i've read the manual a few more times, but it looks promising!

Thanks to everyone who helped, i'll update this post when I know everything works
