Default xx4 front wheels

Can anybody tell me if it's possible to fit xx4 front wheels to the front of a xxx (2wd)?

Cheers

David

Not really, the hex size is the same but the hole in the middle of the wheel is a lot bigger on the 4wd and the offset is way out too.

The offset problem can be fixed by running the wide front end configuration; moving the spacers from the inside of the wheel bearings to the ouside.

The different center hole size might be worked around by using an appropriate washer under the wheel nut.

I'm having a special wheel nut machined that I hope will hold the wheel while filling the larger hole in it.

I don't think that the hex thickness is a problem.

Thanks for the replies.

Ferret - Does the car come in below the max width (250mm) when xx4 wheels are installed as you describe?

Have found a possible alternative in the form of zx5 front rims which I should be able to fit with a few axle mods.

At Ash

Because 4wd front tyres work better on 4wd front rims.

Are they?

Only have kyosho 4wd rims to hand but they are about 5mm wider than the losi wide xxx fronts.

Am sure that cat 3k rims used to be wider as well.

Would be surprised if xx4 rims are any narrower.

There is very very little in it. I wouldnt bother as if your running at a regional or national your car would be to wide.

And why do you need 4wd front tyres on a 2wd?

Because my car doesn't steer enough and I feel that a longer wheelbase with grippier front tyres will give me a faster and more stable racing car than shortening the wheelbase and ending up with less weight on the rear axle.

4wd tyres are also more consistant on a dusty track.

My motivation is to save money by using the same wheels and tyres on both my XXX-cr and my XX-4 instead of spending twice as much money by buying a different set for each of them.
