Default Budget r/c racing options?

Hi,

Could you recommend a class of r/c racing that I could start in with a budget of £250 to start up?

I'm open to class and scale.

Everything t/c and buggies seems to be in excess of £650 to get started.

Thanks.

Hello mate,
Probably be best to see what clubs run nearest to you no point in buying something on a budget then having to do £20-£30 in fuel every week to go and race it.
I have just invested in a set up for 1/10th 2wd electric B4, (not had a chance to race yet though)everything was bought secondhand bit by bit. It would have been under £250 if I hadn't have blown an esc.
If you prefer to buy new I belive you can buy an annsman mad monkey kit fairly cheaply, then go for a hobbyking sensored esc and motor I think you will get this lot all in for around the 250 mark maybe less.
All you need to add to that is batterys and transmitter/reciever combo.

Good luck and enjoy shopping

Mardave or new Schumacher super stox would be my recommendation. Plenty cheap enough, can get by on a single lipo for a club meeting and raced all over. You would be able to get near enough the top spec kit for the class, and what you blew on budget you'd save on consumables as parts are dirt cheap.

Best check your local clubs to see what they race, and what tickles your fancy. You can race most classes with an outlay of £250

1/10 TC is cheap and gives you close racing. GT12 is also similar in price but less popular.

For offroad you can get good rtr brushless cars (The madrat is good, especially as its popular so there will be lots of advice on forums etc)

The big thing is finding a club you like, then getting the set-up that will let you race there.

Go for a short course, it is the most relaxed class and is the most fun

find your nearest club/track and then decide , if cost is a factor you dont want to be doing 100 miles to race a class if there is a club 20 miles from you where you can race a class.

Anywhere near that do the Tamiya Minis, if there is a stock class then you are well able to get going for a good bit less than your budget. Good close racing too.

Take a look at this:

http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hong-nor...roducts/366531

This is a 1/8th RTR race buggy with Force 25 engine, 2.4Ghz radio and 3-shoe clutch for £220!

When my neighbour bought his it was £250 just for the car/engine/radio, it's now been reduced to £220 or £250 for the combo which includes fuel, tx/rx batteries etc.

Also i've had a scout around ebay and found the parts are cheaper than most 1/8th buggies (and quite a few 1/10ths!!) which means if you're on a budget racing this will be more sustainable over time.

Or you could forget the combo, get the car for £220 and get a gallon of better quality fuel for £30ish and still be within your budget (the Model Technics fuel in the combo isn't the best stuff anyway, and you can get duracell procells on the web for peanuts).

You can do the majority of classes for that budget. You just need to be looking at the cheaper end of the market and/or picking up decent used kit where possible.

Some classes are of course easier to do on a budget... Mardave V12s are the ultimate in budget racing due to the low cost of parts (there's very little to break, and when it does break its cheap to fix).

If you want to get outside then 2wd 1/10 buggies and stock Touring Car racing can both be done on the cheap (my GFs complete buggy setup cost about £100 second-hand, and her TC setup under £200).
