Default Anyone doing the Swindon Open Series?

The old 'Swindon Nitro' venue has been reworked and reopened with new owners.

Anyone considering entering any rounds?? (Greener, Mark, Welsh contingency?)

poped over yesterday on my bike look'd good, in the non championships you can run lipo ( I asked ) and you MAY be able to run lipo on champ days but I dont think you'll get any points as this is what I did when I raced indoor tc with swindon.

Please note the MAY as I'm not sure on this and the championship rules do state no lipo I dont know weather this is just for points or a total no.

I'm planning on going up next sunday for some well needed practice

Yeah thats my old club (albeit at their new venue after southleaze).

I had looked at popping down there to have a look, but not sure on when I am able to do it yet. If you have a date and the weather looks good, I might be interested in doing 2wd.

I raced here about 2 or so years ago

Ill be up for 2WD and 4WD. If they do allow LiPo for non point scoring id love that!

Looks good, just a shame that almost every round clashes with something else

I know you can only use the track currently if you are a club member, but I wouldnt imagine their Championship would be members only?
I shall find out though

Last I read, they were approaching the council to allow members to use the track whenever (probably only electric in the evenings though??)

From what I can gather regarding membership fees "Outdoor Only £20 (Apr - Sept)" but that doesnt include BRCA.

Ive put afew posts on the Swindon forum so ill keep you in the loop fella

Hi there fellas, Im membership Secretary at Swindon, so I'll answer what I can. (Hi ya chris-we last met at KRob's micro club)

Basically, the Open championship is supported by Microtech Racing and has a fixed entry fee for members or non members. Normally dates are set to avoid bigger meetings so more people can go (obviously hard in 10th electric with nats and regionals to avoid) The championship is for 4wd and 2wd and 8th buggy and truggy.

The club championship is for club members to score in (you can still come and if you get pole, you keep pole, and can win the A) as pionts are taken from FTD list. We race the finals for chocolate!! Members rates are £3, and non members are £6.

We run PT's and don't believe we'll be running the handouts except at the regionals, when handouts will be available.

The 10th track at club level uses the small cut through so that club members running on a budget aren't at such a disadvantage with horsepower.

The Open and Regional events will run a larger layout to vary things a bit.

Once all work on the track is finished and the chairman is happy all safety work is up to scratch, the track will be open to members till 8pm at night (TBC) BUT there may be certain stipulations to this....The council wanted a committee member and first aider on site whenever any running was done, however, i believe we've come to some agreement over this, but not sure what yet. All will be revealed when the track is open i guess.

In addition....

You become a member by turning up and paying your money and filling in a form.

Anyone turning up0 at a race meeting will not be turned away, you can race so long as your car resembles a 10th buggy. championship scoring is another matter.....I would imagine you could run lipo at a club meeting fine, we don't run any form of scutineering. However I would imagine that they wouldn't be legal for the Microtech Open series, so you would run, your quali times would be nulled, and you'd start the bottom final from the back of the grid. (what's the betting we have a C final solely with lipos now!!!)

If you wish to beome a member purely to practice, drop me an email [email protected] and we'll get you sorted with a postal application.

I would imagine that if you wish to practice at any time, and there is any maintenance work goin on, you will be expected to do your bit as a member first. Other than that i think the track will be open from 10-8 in the summer (TBC and open to change if the council get complaints of noise)
