The differences are mainly in the rear geometry and including the big bore shocks.

The FS2 generates a little more rear roll and thus rear end grip. There isn't a lot in it but it is noticeable. Both are great cars, I tend to run in FS2 trim on everything but carpet where the FS style driveshafts go back in but otherwise as FS2.

What are the difference in the driveshafts?

On the FS2-sp the axle is longer and the dog bone shorter, this puts the center of the joint more inboard of the hinge pins which in turn gives less driveshaft plunge into the diff outdrive ... hence less body roll resistance on power.

FS is longer dogbone and shorter axle so the opposite is true.

Hope that helps

Hi Roger

I read some of your posts with interest, you seem to know your stuff.

Can you explain the pros and cons of altering the driveshaft plunge, i for one haven`t a clue. Diff height would be another handy one too - can i assume that the two are related ?

Cheers

Thanks Rodger, forgive me if iv read it wrong,i thought both the FS and FS2 come with std size shocks,it was them two i was wondering about rather than the FS2 SP,
Thanks
Mark

Sorry, I miss read the original post (damn phone screen and tired eyes)! My answer was for the more common FS2 Vs FS2-sp question ... ooopppsss

Yes, FS & FS2 are both supplied with small bores.

There are quite a few differences between FS & FS2;

Chassis :- no cell slots and beefed up around the point the rear most front hinge pin holder bolts to the chassis (this was the place were chassis cracked if they were going to in a big cash or coming up very short on a gap jump)

Rear wishbones :- FS had the short wishbones, FS2/FS2-sp has the mid length wishbones

Rear hubs :- FS & FS2-sp have the UM519 hubs, the FS2 (and RB5-sp/sp2) have the UM519-2 hubs which have both camber link holes moved out 1/2 a step (so basically the outer and 3rd in position on the aluminum hubs where as the UM519 has the 2nd & 4th in hole positions)

Driveshafts :- the FS & FS2-sp both use the longer axle & the 62.5mm shaft (part number UM510) but the , the FS2 uses the short axle + 65.5 bone like the RB5-sp/sp2 which is part number UM522

Rear hinge pin holders :- the FS2/FS2-sp have the adjustable ali LAW36/LAW37 hinge pin holders where as the FS had the plastic holders.

Body shell :- the FS2 was the first to shipped with the drop dead Shoot shell the previous version had the Cannon shell which is much tighter for brushless + lipo instals.

There where lots of subtle hardware / plastic material changes between the two cars as Kyosho upgraded their specs on certain parts.

I think that has it all now, sorry about that.

Handling wise the FS gives the most rear grip but at the expense of some natural pivot, the FS2 has loads of pivot at the expense of some lateral grip and the FS2-sp has plenty of both grip & natural pivot = the perfect balance for a 4wd IMHO.

I'm happy to go through both, in fact I was going to be doing a feature about setup with the help of a fellow oOple fanatic but it seems to have gone a littel quite. I'll gee him up and see where it's headed ... got to run at this exact moment but will answer very soon (if not feel free to give me another nudge)

Sounds good Roger, look forward to reading when you find the time.

No probs Roger,i like to be different

Wow thanks for the info,
i think the FS,although probably a good car, with my crash record is a no go
the price of a second hand FS2 makes them very tempting, but there is something about building a new kit

one thing i do know,im usless at making dessisions(and spelling)

thanks again Roger

Hi Roger

I think I've landed some FS wishbones as part of a spares bundle, how much different are they, you say shorter, by how much? Usable or best not? Running DB1 & FS2/SP and have a Vega RB5

If not I'll just give them to someone.

Short arms are in um503 and la255. Rb5 and lazer fs & sp. Some people still run shorter rear arms on the rb5 but it's personal preference.

Mid length arms are 2mm longer. La243, um521, la272, um566 & law43 (machined version).

So you probably have the 2mm washer inboard on the driveshafts as well. Fs used to have it between hub and wheel. You also have the driveshaft differences Rog mentioned above. All very confusing..... I'll just stick with what I know

Yes the spacer is inboard on both my db1 and fs2sp

Indeed lol

FS2SP 4wd
DB1 with FS2 rear end
Vega with RB5 rear end.

Think I'll work through my spares etc and really catorgrise the kit!

FS2 All the way!!! Not many using the big bores (Mine have sat in my pit box since I got them) and the other changes just dont justify the expense!

Steering mod is cheap, diff balls are cheap and the rear wishbones may be an improvement, but its awesome with the older ones anyway!! Plus they are the same as your vega!

I currently run the big bores everywhere .. for me they make the cars easier to drive and more consistent!

I will be starting on small bores for the DB1 to get a feel of the car on Kev's setup then work from there with the big bores.
