... that I should be ferried to and from racing in a minibus and spoken to v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y. I dug my car out to show a friend today realised I'd left it switched on with the Lipos connected.

One dead pack.

Presumably the cut-off won't stop it draining if the radio is still on, slowly sucking the power out of it?

This happened to me a while back. If it has not been discharged for to long you may be able to jump it back to life.

I did exactly that and its been fine ever since. No swelling and no drop of in performance. However they said it couldn't be done!!

This is what I have done so far:

The charger flashed a Low Voltage warning and wouldn't let me charge it the packs so I changed the Battery Type setting to Nimh and charged for a couple of minutes, watching the voltage rise from around 4.0V until it passed the magic 6.0V mark.

Then I changed back to Lipo setting and am now balance charging as normal.

I'll let you know how it goes!

I have noticed that you and many other drivers who turn up to York don’t charge their lipo’s in a fire proof pouch..... I thought it was a BRCA rule to do so?
Seriously mate - you should not charge them if they have been effected in this way outside of some sort of protective pouch anywhere!! Just in case......

Guilty as charged on the pouch (as with most people to be fair).

But I don't think there's any more chance of them going pop now than this time last week. All I did was nudge them back to 6.0v and then charge as normal from there.

Happy to be corrected mind - I don't fancy melting my picnic table!

All Jerry has done is repeat what is done when the cells are made. Why would that have any effect the second time when it didnt the first?

The people who get burned by lipos are those people who leave them fully charged, allow them to swell and then charge them at stupid amps or stick sharp objects into the cell allowing air to come in contact with the metal. Once the lithium comes into contact with air, it burns, especially if its already in an excited state due to having a lot of energy stored in the complex already...

While I would recommend using a charging pouch to put those people who hear the horror stories but dont have the knowledge to understand how it can go bad at ease, unless your cells are swollen badly, or showing signs of damage, I'd just charge them as you've chosen to before. The only way that cell is going to burn is if the lithium comes into contact with air.
