Question What happens to the car on the box?

Don't know what made me think of this or why I even care but anyway!

As most RC boxes have images of the built model with a nice custom shell on, what happens to these models??

I imagine the likes of the 1980's Cat XLS with the Black, Yellow & Red paint scheme is on display at the UK factory somewhere....maybe in Robins office! But what about all the Kyosho Optimas, Ultimas and Lazers etc??

Would be cool to have the actual box art car!

Dan

You'd hope they go into a sort of factory museum but in reality they probably often get "lost" in the system/given away to employees/binned or the shells got passed on and the chassis are raced, or used for development before being recycled. Kind of like full size cars I guess.

I don't know perhaps they keep them on display at a factory or such like. VW have a museum at wolfsburg with a lot of, firsts, one offs and special cars. Perhaps they decorate a waiting room in Japan or such like. Who knows. Has anyone evere visited the kyosho factory in Japan? What do Schumacher do?

That might be the easiest question to answer as they are over here.

I recall in 90's Schumacher had a glass case with some box cars in, can't remember all just the Club10's. They may have just a shell remaining somewhere - as I suppose at the time of photo the car was in abundance.

I can answer for the more well known ones.

Schumacher still have early cars and prototypes at the office, some can be seen on Cecils interview on RCRacing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FruLSZMQ_Kw

Gil Losi Sr. kept the prototypes, originals and trophies when he retired. Unfortunately they were destroyed in a lipo fire. http://murrieta.patch.com/articles/f...arage-contents

Associateds prototypes and specials were kept by Gene Husting when he retired from Associated. He photographed some of the cars a couple of years ago and they can be downloaded from Associateds website

Gene Hustings display in his home, including the famous 'full size' RC10

Finally, Genes son Curtis Husting with the original boxart RC10 at Team Associated.

Most of the Kyosho ones are the Top Racers Colours at the time, so the cars belong to the drivers.
