Default old time racing

Check out this photo from the earlyish 80's

Can't remember everyones name, but from the left we have; Paul Gutteridge, Steve Haynes??, me (John Jones), Richard Johnson, PHIL BOOTH, Ian Littley and don't know.

The event was at Wollaton Park near Nottingham and think that was the A final line up. The Hotshot had just come out so guessing it was about '83?

It would have been 5 to 6 years since Phil had won the 1/8th circuit world championship so was quite amazing to be racing against him (and losing!) Attachment 36497

I'll give you that, it does look like him but it's definitely Richard Johnson as I remember being stood next to him on the day

Glyn Peglar, now there is a name from the past! raced against him a couple of times in 1/12th scale

Hi John,

Yeah, i can confirm that's me second from the left although i can't remember the venue at all... But that could be an age thing

I guess it was like a Weston Park, Eastnor, Stoneleigh sort of event?

Can't remember the guys name far right either but i do remember him being a frequent racer.

Great pics though bud, keep them coming.

Steve.

Thanks Steve

It was called Americana and was at Wollaton Park near Nottingham (there were loads of American cars and cowboys etc. Seem to remember there was a big crowd even though it rained all day! (and it was arranged by Ilkeston model car club, which is now Broxtowe)

You and Jamie were my heros when I was just starting out, with your Kyosho Scorpions or whatever they were called are you still racing?

cheers, John

I sort of remember that meet now.... it was the cowboys that triggered my memory
Must of been Tamiya Rough Rider era that meeting

Ilkeston... That's why the guy on the right is familiar i think, I spent many a weekend there with some great characters and he must of been one of the club guys. Some of my heroes used to race at Ilkeston....
Anyone remember the corrugated roof section?! Brilliant.

I have got photos from that venue behind the pub/carpark. What was the pubs name and is it still there?

I'm still racing buddy and loving it as much as ever
After racing outdoor 10th OffRoad (which i still race most Wednesdays indoors) i hit the noisy smelly scene, starting with gas trucks followed by 1/8th O.R. for a good decade and currently into me 3rd year of Large Scale... Still gets the adrenilin running

Love it

Well mate, it's good to know you're still into it after all these years I have stopped and started over the years but am in it to stay now

The pub is called the Mundy Arms and it's now typically just an eating out pub, as they all are now. The track went years and years ago, but the corrugated roof feature is probably still there

I think some people still had modified Rough Riders then, but they were on their way out to be replaced by the Hot Shot and first RC10.

I'll try and find some more pics from them days
