Default B44.1 vs cat sx3 vs dex410

Chaps and chapettes

Looking at getting one of these to go racing. I am a reasonable club (A or b final) driver. Planning on switching from 1/8 nitro to 1/10 electric so I can race with my little boy.

I am leaning towards a b44, but would be great to know what the pros and cons are of each.

Thanks in advance.

I run a 44.1 and my son 7 is running a b44 very competitive cars very easy to work on and parts are cheap they handle well out of the box... however it all depends on what your racing on a dex 410 from what i have seen are a lot quicker on high grip tracks and are very strong. we have found especially with the young one the front wishbones are a bit weak on the b44s but thats all we have had problems wise with them.

Would be mainly indoor, probably RVRCCC to begin with. So carpet mostly.

Durango all the way, wouldn't swap mine for anything.

pros, fast, strong, really, really strong, and handles well.

cons, none I've found in over 2 1/2 years.

Default 1/10th's

I used to race 1/8 nitro rally cross and switched to 1/10th off road last year. I run a second hand B44.1 and have never had to do any work on it and pick up low A and high B finals in the East of England regionals. The only thing I have broken is the front bumper, the car handles well although not sure 100% on the shocks. I am thinking of switching to a Durango as I really like the build quality and like the idea of the geared diffs over the ball diffs. I know the Durango out numbers the B44's when looking around the pits too.

That's very true in the EoE, there were 16 maybe 17 Durangos out of 24 cars at the Boughton regional this weekend.

My local club at Ipswich is almost a Durango one make series now

Thanks for the replies so far. Sounds like both the b44 and the dex410 have a lot of fans. Not much love for the cat sx3 then.

+1 for the sx3. My son has ran one for 12 months now and only broke 1 front wishbone and one belt and he's a regular A finalist at srcc

B44.1 but just make sure you mess with the Ackerman it's a good tuning part that most don't change

+1 for the dex410. I just done the exact same thing moving from 1/8th to 1/10th this season and the geared diffs etc in the 410 are like second nature for a rallycross driver!

Thanks for all the posts, it definately helped.

In the end I decided on two, the b44 and the dex410. Happy with either and its a case of finding a good one from the classifieds.

In the end I have gone for a second hand B44

Default SX3

I have had my SX3 for about 6 months ish. only broke a front and rear wishbone. in bad cashes..... runs smooth and vey reliable.

I got it used and have not rebuilt the diffs yet and run it most weekends and sometimes in the week, so i have to say its a solid easy drive car.

Alot stronger than its little sister the SV....

There seems to be an even mix of 44 and sx3's around locally, but also alot of the rangos. I think if i was to sway from the sx3, as losi dont have a new 4wd yet, i would prob go the 410 route.
But love my SX so sticking with her for a while yet!

Happy Racing.

What no Kyosho Lazer FS-2' but I like the Durango when the wheels don't fall off

They know who they are

The Lazer suited my cack driving, but would tempt V3 410

My personal assessment of the 3 cars...

B44.1 = Easy to drive, simple build, little setup work needed, US designed.
Durango = Aggressive to drive, well engineered, more work to setup, European designed.
SX3 = Never driven one, more complex to build (partly due to belt transmission), looks more complex on setup (but with the right guys around to advise it'd probably be ok), UK designed.

All 3 have good parts availability so would score evenly on that...unless you have a track side shop that only stocks a particular brand(s)!

Of the 3 the SX3 is the only one I've not had any direct ownership experience of...but our club has all 3 running, so see them all regularly.

They are all as quick as each other really...but do feel different to drive, so pick the one that suits you! They all appear in A finals at the biggest competitions on all types of track, so it is a bit of personal preference tbh!

I own the B44.1, it suits me very nicely

Haven't 410s been known to catch on fire due to the driveshaft being to short and ripping in to the lipos?

Yes and no.

The grub screw holding the pin in the rear prop comes loose, then the pin cuts into the lipo.

You can either use the ring that holds the pin in place, or put some heat shrink tape over it, either one prevents the pin from coming out. (But fitting the ring is an utter total pain in the neck)

I use heatshrink, and have never had a problem.
