You can get the motor tester from Schumacher. Tom was testing a motor last night with one, simple but effective.

The motors probably a shorting out.

I had a SP motor that wouldn't move from a standstill, but if you gave it a nudge and didn't let it stop it would run fine.

Turned out to be 1 of the phases on the speedo (SP GT2.0 LPF) had gone down. It was replaced by Schumacher under warranty.

Needing a nudge is almost always the speedo. Have you tried another motor on it?

I had a SPEC Novak Speed Controller I intended to use for the wet car last year, I had the issues where the car would need a nudge to make it move..I thought this may have been the motor. As it wasn't a good quality brushless motor that was paired with it originally. Soldered a GM10.5 on and gave it a test run, accelerated fine...hit the brakes and the speedo went up in a huge puff of smoke, which in turn melted the top PCB to the lower one.
