Has anyone noticed that the standard rear ball studs in the hub carrier have a nasty tendency to snap leaving the thread inside the carrer. This has happened twice, once to the left and once to the right. I bought some titanium ball studs and fitted it to one side and that side was fine but the other one broke again.
It is likely to be me being a crap driver. But, anyways I need to streghten the rear carrer ball studs area. I would prefer the ball cup just to pop off!!! Has anyone had a ballstud snap in the hub carrier? Have people been able to get the snapped thread out? Is titanium the only way to go? Or should I also look at metal rear carriers? (but if it snaps in the rear carrier I will be livid at £33.99 as opposed to a fiver for plastic version) Should I replace the ballcups so they 'flex' more or pop off rather then snapping the ball stud Advice pretty please Thanks

I noticed that when the rear suspension is fully compressed, and the ball studs are in the outer holes on the hub, the shank of the ball ends, comes into contact with the inside top of the hub. Could this be causing your problem, or perhaps be putting extra strain on them, which is causing them to break at a later date?

Thats really interesting. As they have both broken in the outer area of the hub. I will check my suspension.
So it maybe worth shimming it up to clear this or run it on the inside? What do you do? Cheers Andy. Going to look it now

I used a dremel and drum sander to create some clearance in the middle of the back of the hub.

Thank you ver much. I noticed I had a set of them dremeled 2nd hand with the car. That all makes sense. It does clearly hit the car. I am going to dremel, use titanium and hpefully it will sort the weak point
THanks Martin

I just cut a bit off the backend of the hub.
Also, dont use the original plastic spacers, it's not giving enough support if the strain get high
