Its a digital servo, and digital servos are prone to "whining" in use.
Make sure the linkages are free-running, make sure the servo isn't straining at full lock, and sometimes a little fine tuning of the servo neutral position will make it quieter at rest. It's also a Hitec, which is not the best quality brand... |

The best quality is Futaba and Sanwa, but you pay more. KO is pretty good as well.
Savox is popular at the mid-range price but bear in mind they demand a lot of power and that can cause issues for some electrics. Hitec I would rate along with a lot of the lower priced servos, Bluebird and other non-specific brands. The odd model performs well but a lot of them have been problematic over the years. |

Don't rule out Orion as they have very powerful, light and quality servos at really reasonable prices.

my mate just bought an Alturn-usa servo for £18 new and it seems brilliant for the money......metal gears, ball races, 11kg torque and 0.12 speed

You are better off with one of the makes we all use because we have been there and come back again! Many are available second hand on this forum, and that is a better bet. It is testament to the quality and reliability of the major makes that they often sell on here for more than a new Hitec! Digital servos usually have a bit more power for the same current draw, are a tad more accurate and have a higher holding power - the ability to hold the desired position against the forces from the steered wheels - see above. These days, some radio systems (the good ones like Sanwa and Futaba 2.4Ghz systems) will only work with a digital servo. That allows you the best response, and today it is better than it has ever been if you use these two systems. HTH ![]() |
