I currently have Sky with a relativly old SKY+ box(white).
I've keen to get a SKY+ HD box for the extra capacity and the free HD channels (not interested in paying another £10.25 a month). Can I just buy a box off the internet and aside from ringing SKY to get viewing card transfered, will it just work? Tried to upgrade through SKY but fell out with them over how much they wanted. Cheers

Dan, yes you can.
Sky will need to associate your viewing card to your box. In theory I think this can be done via the box / online, but I ended up having to call them. I think this possibly only works if you are just switching to a new box that is the same as the one you already had. I went from a std (non plus) box to an HD one that I bought from ebay last year.

We got that another way... the missus was in a bad mood one night, phoned up Sky, told them we were cancelling our contract and going Freesat.
After a short 'discussion' they upgraded our box to HD free of charge ![]() |

As said already...yes, I did it too, brought a HD box of eBay and phoned Sky to tell them.

Make sure you get an Amstrad PVR5 box and not one of the god awful Thompson HD box's!
