Default 410 Rear wheels lifting under braking

Hi all

Just fine tuning my setup, one issue I have is under heavy braking at the end of the straight the car dips and the rear wheels lift. Sometimes to the point it flips over from the front. Brake is not extreme, I think around 50%. Is there anything on setup that can reduce the weight transfer under braking?

Cheers

Dave

I would say either reduce the brakes. Or maybe put some spacers in the front shocks

Hi Dibble, your slipper clutch is too tight, back the nut off a full turn, turn your brakes back up to 100% and try it again. If in "Endo's" again, back it off half a turn and test again.

This will also make the car easier to drive under acceleration and will make your braking more predictable.

Another way is to limit the droop some more. But slipper sounds the best bet, as you car is already very punchy. Backing it off a touch will not do any harm and should feel a tad easier to drive in the damp too.

Hi
Brilliant, thanks very much. I worry about burning the slipper out if too loose, but it is quite tight.
Will report back next week

Cheers

Cheers Jamie, really happy with the car now, just need to iron out little things like this to be more consistent. Not having you taking the credit though if it does work

You better get some stick time before I get a 4WD out to play! Yeah your going very well at the moment. Car seems pritty good too, as you said its just fine adjustments.
I do find sometimes, I and other's try to fiddle too much with setup once its nearly there. But don't focus on driving it better if that makes sense?. I used to run my 410 fairly light and with Ghea pistons. Which seemed to work well at Torch, over the slight ripples the track has at the moment.

Was a shame you sold yours, we were close the last time we raced together. Give it a while though, as I fear it may of been lucky on my part! Don't plan to fiddle with much else tbh

If a rear wheel is lifting under braking this is a weight transfer issue. Ie too much weight is being transferred to the front of the car. Adding more droop to rear shocks will just excentuate this further. Reducing droop at the rear by using the droop screws a couple of turns out might help. Stiffer front springs and an appropriate change in oil will also help stop the weight shift. If it only happens during cornering a front roll bar will help stiffen the front up instead.

As dammo says. Def loosen the slipper as the geared diffs on the 410 cause really sharp braking which also exaggerates the weight shift. By using a loose slipper the harshness is removed. Adam s recommends 7.9mm slipper setting.

This is something I have copied and really like!

Btw altering front droop will have no effect on this problem. As it only effects accelerating weight transfer. 2-3mm of internal spacing in the front shocks will not go a miss though as this calms the cars aggressive steering massively!

Hope this helps
Feel free to pm me with any qs

Thanks very much for your advice. I will set the slipper and report back. It is at the end of a longish straight, not when cornering. Stiffer front spring was next on my list. Might take you up on that offer if still having problems

Worth remembering that there's a really nasty bump if you're out wide right where you hit the brakes. My car is nice and stable under brakes as long as I avoid the bump. If I hit that it's game over...

Be interesting to see how your changes work this weekend Dave, I seem to remember you thinking my front end was quite stiff on Sunday (fnar, fnar).
