Default Astroturf/Outdoor carpet

Anyone got a closeup picture of that stuff you guys race on? All I know is it's green, sometimes blue, and it's got to be better than the dirt in my backyard. I need to turf/carpet about half my backyard, but I have no idea what to use. My local hardware stores don't even sell "astroturf", or they don't think they do.

Thanks guys!
Chris

Umm, have you seen the amount of different kinds of astroturf? type it in... There's everything from carpet, to stuff that looks like green coconut shavings glued to paper, to actual fake grass. As I explained, all I know is that what you guys use comes in green and apparently blue. I have NO idea what it looks like up close..................

Here you can find some photos which could give you an impression how the "race version" looks like:

http://www.zone442.com/

Go to the main page, scroll down a bit and click "KAMPENOUHT - GRAND PRIX DE BELGIQUE 2006". There you can find a few photos like this one of a Masami-esque painted car with the Astroturf at least a little bit distinguishable :

Astroturf is kinda like a very short fibre brushed to one side. Like a pipe cleaner, but of course very much stronger, shorter and lying down. Not like a carpet with woven endings or what, it´s rather open at the top. At least it´s about this way in Kampenhout.

At Southport we actually run 'Verdi Felt' which is designed for indoor use, the proper outdoor stuff is more like this http://www.artificiallawn.co.uk/grasses.htm
This place is a bit closer though, http://www.astroturfusa.com/
Hope this helps a bit.

dont get the 'long' fake grass style, it will make the car crab as its goes along.

something short and hard wearing is what you want.

And when you get it i hope you know a rugby team to move it or a digger. it took us about 8 people to move a 3m by 3m square wit sand in it.
