I'm after a new 4wd but don't know what to choose. I'm only going to run indoors at York so can't make my mind up between the new Yokomo or a BJ4 WE. At the moment I'mm running a Pred x10. Any help? I want something low maintenance.

The yoke is fairly well sealed up but would probably still get some of that carpet fluff in the diffs, not sure if it would effect it though. They are all excellent cars - out of all 3 I'd guess the BJ4 might be the least maintenance.
The xx4 is good but personally I dont like working on the car, the Yoke is the opposite though, its a pleasure to work on. |

If I was to change cars now (currently running an x5) I would most likely change to a BJ4WE. It has a good efficient drivetrain with pleanty of space for a fan to be installed - this would be a big help indoors as cars produce alot more heat with the lack of cool air and wind.
Spares for the car don't seem to be too expensive, compared to the likes of yokomo and losi. Costs at the moment is the factor which is making me look else where as it's about £15 for a shock tower and £12ish for a pair of wishbones (x-5,xx-4), other parts for the car do not get much cheaper. To be fair though, my X-5, and xx-4 before I converted are most likely the best handeling cars I have ever driven. They can be pushed very hard and rarely bite for making mistakes. Set ups are not an issue for these cars as the 'known' set up most use works just about everywhere. You are unlikely to find any 4wd low maintinance if you drive hard, every 4wd is put under alot of strain and pressure from the huge amounts of grip that can be obtained, again if you run fast motors (10 turns and above) then this will not help maintinance at all - as parts are worn quicker. May I ask what is making you want to leave the X10? |

i dont really no why i want to change when i think the pred is not the norm so cant really get much help at the track and im the sort of racer that dont whant to be stripping diffs down every thew meetings and messing about with lots of diffrent setups for diffrent type tracks i like just sticking with one setup so i like the xx4 for that

I'm the same to be honest, I literally dont have the time usually do be messing with my cars so prefer one that I can leave alone. I've only a little track time with the bj4WE but the previous BJ4 was great for racing indoors, I never did anything to it once it was setup right. Tom and Rich Lowe race the bj4 at york often dont they ?
I don't know if there would be one you could say is the best, it depends what you like and how many others race the car near you. Also parts support (with peter) and parts cost have to be considered. |

Have you tried the pred website? Tom Yardy posts alot of his set ups on there and it seems he does not change too much at all.
Northy, on this forum will be able to help you with your pred if you have any issues if you ask him nicely im sure. Don't change your car before you have had a good look around and 100% decided it isnt the car for you.. i learned that the hard way ![]() |

i used to race at DMS on carpet, and to be honest there isn't much to touch the xxx4. i know everyone has abandoned this car outdoors on rough terrain, but indoors on smooth surfaces it is awesome because it is essentially a tourer with long wishbones!
The drive train is also pretty maintenance free, especially with an apex one way in the front!

If you need any help with the X10 just ask. The X10 is probably one of the lowest maintainance 4wds now. Well it must be if TTech guarantee the transmission!

It did seem strange to me that someone who wanted a car to be good on a flat, high grip surface would want to get rid of a pred?

I moved to a ZX5 from a xxx4 and it is much better. changes direction much quicker. Plus it is awesome outdoors on bumps.
![]() you will need to upgrade a few parts, but it will easily compare to the others on cost

X10's need zero upgrades out of the box. What is wrong with the X10? You still haven't told us! Mine goes well at York.

You mean Ben? I still don't know why you want to change. Wouldn't you be better off learning your own car, figuring out what adjustments did what etc. That way you won't need anyone elses help.
