Does RTR really mean Ready To Run?

Picture this; you’ve just bought a brand new RTR R/C car! The battery pack is almost ready to come off your charger and into the car. Your sitting there with the controller in your hands, imaging what it will drive like. At last the batteries are ready, so you take them off the charger and place them into the car!

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO NEXT?

The first thing you should do is read the original instructions! It may not be the highlight of your week, but it will pay off in the future. By reading the instructions you can find out if any things needs doing to the car before and after its fist test drive, you will also discover safety warnings when using your car, which will prevent damage either to YOU or your car!

While your batteries are still charging, take this time to perform the once over of your car. Check that all the screws, nuts and bolts are all tighten. You may also need to lock thread the screws into place if you are running a nitro car, as the vibrations of the engine can un-tighten the screws over time! It is also a good idea to check over the tyres of your car, make sure that they are all securely glued to the wheels! Other things you should consider before starting your new RTR is the adjustments of the differential gears and slipper clutch (if this applies) correct. Shock oil and gearing should also be checked, if the gearing is too tight or too lose then the life of your motor and/or your speed controller may not be as good. Finally the last check to perform that I can think of, is make sure all the electronic items in the car is working properly. By putting your car either on a stand or on a book (just something to let the wheels spin free) check that the steering servo is working and the aliment is straight, as well as checking the ESC!
