Default Which buggy to go for? In and outdoor

Hey guys

I'm just looking at getting a buggy to run indoors and outdoors at the club. Can any of you that run them recommend one?

I'm not looking at spending £££'s maby up to £100 for a rolling chassis but would be nice to get one for less.

Are any of the old losi's any good and can you still get parts.

Many thanks Michael

losi parts are still available (i still have some )
they are still quite good, yet it has been over a year since i seen one at the club.
I do see quite a few mid motored versions (conversion kit type) at race meets which do really well..

Get yourself an ansmann mad rat or mad monkey. Spend a bit of money on bearings and upgrade the shocks and the diff balls (see me about those )

Ideal starter buggy and well in your budget if you select right bits plus you get the joy of building it yourself.

P.s. the last two off-road championships at bridgford have been won by a madrat so they are more than capable at the track

I have had a look at the mad rat and for £60 new it's not bad.

What's the difference between the mad rat and mad monkey. Which is better?

I take it spares are easy to get?

Also are there any other ones to look at?

Thanks Michael

The madrat is rear motored and the monkey is mid motored. General consensus is that mid motor is quicker on high grip surfaces such as astro turf or carpet and grass. Rear motor are better on low grip surfaces.

Dave carries all the spares for ansmann cars

There are pro versions of the above also.

There is a massive selection of 2wd buggies at the moment and everyone will tell you the car they are driving currently is the one you should buy. But for your budget I think the ansmann is the only viable option to buy new.

Second hand just check out the for sale section on here.

Thanks rob. I like the idea of mid mounted motor as it looks more splash proof for those wetter days

But that to the side there a nice b4 in for sale section for £80 which I feel might be a good buy

Just trying to cost things up. What shocks you you recommend for the mad monkey.

Thanks Michael

Personally i would be looking at either Associated V2's or Kyosho RB5 Velvets. But the old losi shocks seem very popular.

I had an X2C which is basically a pro version on the Mad Monkey.
I found the plastic to be quite weak.

I would seriously consider putting your money into a good used car.
the B4 in the forsale section is a steal at £80.

Nice result mate!

If your funds allow, you might also want to buy a Mad Monkey for the following reasons:

- They are only £60

- Most of the parts are the same so you will have a decent supply of spares

- You will have the option of running mid-motored for the higher bite surfaces (you can buy a mid-motor conversion for the rat from Hong Kong, but once you factor in postage, tax etc it is much better value to buy a monkey as a donor car.

I know when Rob bought his XPro (effectively what you have ended up with), he also bought a Madrat as a donor car purely for spares.

I do think the Mad Rat is one of the most under-rated cars out there. Every bit as quick as a B4/RB5, but a hell of a lot cheaper
